The Live Match Discussion Thread: 2019/2020

All of their own doing, wrong team selection and then piss poor defending throughout the game.

On balance of play City should have won big part of that 2nd half was attack bs defence but fair play to Lyon for hanging in and taking their chances. City still definitely need another CB and a striker in this window

So... Do City sack Pep now?

Should Pep want to walk now!

That was indeed insipid and the goals a gift. Citeh blew it

Pep trying to be to clever to a point of arrogance. The defence is a shambles especially since Kompany left. City can moan about the second goal but Walker (who was shocking tonight) should have given away a penalty at 1-1. If sterling makes it 2-2 I think they win in extra time.
The high line they were playing especially on the second goal is just suicidal football. Cancelo, Walker, and Garcia in your back line isn’t going to win you the CL.

Same problem for them every year. Their defence is their achilles heel and they concede too many as they get close to the CL final.

Pep has had enough time, and enough money that he should have had it sorted out by now.

Peps a great manager but he has a massive blind spot to his approach. City were obviously much better than Lyon and once they equalised there should have only been one winner but their defensive positioning is woeful at times. It's actually criminal the situations they leave themselves in, yes they're good but no side is too good where they don't have to defend. City are a great side and have been pretty much since he took over but i do wonder what the team could achieve if they defended properly.

I guess Man City have a weakness for teams who finish 7th.

A mention to Gundogan absolute baggage in the middle tonight to. I think City need a genuine leader at CH alongside Laporte who’ll probably thrive like he did with Kompany, Ake isn’t that answer.
People starting to say that Guardiola has been a failure already, yep no CL delivered. But domestic treble and 2 league titles where they botched up 99 & 100 points playing some great football. Seriously if you’re one of these give your head a wobble.

Pep always tries to be too clever. Dicking around with "we don't practice set pieces" at Bayern then Ramos mullers them off any kind of decent ball in springs to mind.

He's very talented, he's a knob though.

Imagine a Klopp team (even with 10 men) losing to Wolves at 2-0 up.

Wouldn't happen, would it.

While I understood the thinking in going with a back 3, I think he should have trust his own teams quality more. That said, VAR totally screwed them over for that second goal and Sterling has missed a complete open goal, I’m amazed at how many times they manage to shoot themselves in the foot!

Yeah he loves himself a bit too much I reckon. I saw the All Or Nothing on them and you tell he's a great coach but a right egotist.

The second goal shouldn’t stand you can also see the ref about to blow for the free kick but let’s play run on maybe thinking that VAR will bail him out if there’s been an error.
