The January 2025 Transfer Thread

Stunned by how easily people are ready to let one of the best midfielders outside the top 6 go in the middle of a relegation fight.

One injury to André or João Gomes and we'd have a situation where Doyle has to play every minute with only Luke Cundle in reserve.
Would agree, but Lemina isn't one of the best midfielders outside of the top 6. He's probably one of the top 6 midfielders in the bottom 6.

Useful, but definitely not irreplaceable.

Lemina's been superb for us, for the most part, but I can't begrudge any player looking to ensure their grandkids will never have to work by going off to play in Saudi for a few years.

Neom though, what a complete armpit. Scandalous those bastards have the World Cup soon :(

I'd say he's better than a lot of bottom 6 midfielders, in my mind a very good mid table player and as back up to Gomes and Andre, doubt we'll get better.

Don’t think most/anyone really wants him to go, just accepting that it will probably happen.

What I will say about Mario is that he might be defensively minded but he isn't a holding midfielder at all. His game is all about legs and winning the ball all over the park. Doesn't take a major drop off in athleticism for that to suddenly be a major problem if you're that kind of player, and he is 31 and has played nearly 400 career games.

He's not someone like Michael Carrick who I imagine if he wanted to could still rock up and do a job in the EFL for someone, and look like he was wearing a pair of comfy slippers while doing so.

I see the logic in Mario wanting to go at this point in his career - and I understand why some (including me) want him to stay.

But if those of you touting Luke Cundle as a viable, starting central midfielder in the Premier League……you’ve obviously never seen him play there.

Suddenly getting lot of autocorrects along the lines of “tire” => “tyre”

We're often quite an horrible lot Alan ('though Rita, Sue and Bob Too is a superb film. If a bit on the nose sometimes)

I'll be sad to see Mario go as I think it makes our squad weaker. I have a strong feeling that a lot of this has been driven by his own behaviour in losing the captaincy. Good luck to him whatever he decides to do. Always gave everything in our shirt,.
