Hello, Lyon supporter here.

All that fuss about Joao Gomes is actually hard to understand from our point of view. We already have two similar young players in the squad, and Joao Gomes doesn't seem to offer what we are needing at the moment: experience, height and physicality.

The official narrative is that the club were following the player for almost 2 years, and that the new owner provides means to conclude the deal. But, frankly speaking, it is hard to believe. And most of OL supporters don't get why the club try to force things when the player made it clear where he wanna go. We all like players who keep the words that they gave.

There is something obviously political in all this. I haven't seen it mentioned here, but there are ongoing feuds about the organization of professional football in Brazil. To summarize, 2 groups of clubs are behind 2 different projects for a Brazilian league. Flamengo are among the prominent support of the one called Libra. Botafogo, owned by Eagle Football Holdings, the group that just have bought OL, are also backing Libra, but not as strongly as expected and this position needs to be secured by its promoters. That could explain why, despite the local rivalry between Flamengo and Botafogo, the former are willing to please the latter. (More details about it to be read in this article)

Anyway, I hope that my message would be insightful to some of you. I also hope all of this come to a rapid conclusion, and that this young lad can enjoy playing football soon, wherever it is.

Good luck for the end of this complicated season to you!

Thanks for that context, very useful.

You still need to make up for selling us Marçal though.

Good God, he was. Where attacks went to die.
Should ask why we signed a LB/LCB to play as a LWB I guess.

His first season, when fit, he was decent in a solid defensive way. After that, he lost the solid bit so he was shit at both ends of the pitch.

Think Marcal did an OK job for us as back up, given the price, ended up being overused.
I haven't forgiven him for that penalty against Brentford mind you.

I told you all not to worry about Dawson
I told Paddy he was having his medical yesterday morning, before anyone else tweeted or mentioned the deal was done.

But it's nothing that an educated guess couldn't arrive at.

Linked heavily with player, player left out, leading transfer journalist calls it done, rumours West Ham are stalling to ensure he doesn't immediately strengthen us.

Anybody looking at those facts its not hard to conclude the bloke would likely have his medical over the weekend. No need for texts or worrying from others (not that there was any)
