It's not about the amount of money involved though really. Its the principle. We'd already agreed a fee with them at an agreed price. They're taking the piss. Gomes may or may not turn out to be a quality player but its not really a position we are desperate for a player in. I'm sure there are other central midfield players of a similar profile on the clubs radar.

For what it’s worth, I agree they’re taking the piss, but eventually you suck it up, pay the extra million, and get the player you want.

I don't think any of those players you have listed apply to this. We didn't miss out on those players because we wouldn't pay an extra bit of money?

Enzo - No principles involved. Just a bad call based on expecting him to be unavailable to join at the time.

Cancello - We actually bid £50m but we could have bid £300m and he would still would have joined Juventus

Leao - Outside of itk's no idea if we even tried or had a chance to find out if we had principles

Ramos - As above but with added, the rumours were to get him we had to pay his release clause in one go. As happened with Diaz, not principles just couldn't.

Botman - Probably the only one where principles have come into it but in reality another bad call (good at those) We set an amount we were prepared to pay...they wanted more...we refused.
