The Incoming Transfers Everywhere Thread: Summer 2023

There is a reason he's available for a pittance. It's called having a year left on a contract.

If you think clubs aren't interested because he's an obnoxious cheating bastard then you must be living in the 80's.

I have good news and bad news in that case. The good news is Wolves are top flight team, the bad news is you'll enjoy every other division for 30 years of the next 40.
neves had a year left on his contract. He went for *checks notes* not a pittance. Length of contract is not the only determining factor.

He went for under market value. To Saudi too, so x2 what anyone else would pay.

It was agreed that the club would not panic and wait until January.
While there will not be multi-millions to spend in the winter window, Wolves would rather focus on adding a forward who has been properly researched and analysed by the recruitment team.

Astonishing that they are admitting they hadn't properly researched and analysed a target for this summer. It’s not as if our goalscoring is a new issue.

I'm sure I've read Hobbs say recently that they're constantly scouting and researching so there's a dynamic list of options across various budget points for each position

If they aren't, they all ought to be sacked.

hobbs has to be sacked then if percy is telling the truth. gross negligence. position untenable.

(and that’s before you even consider the current 3-year caretaker debacle).

Get Hobbs the chancer out before he does any more damage. i’d rather have Jeff Shi.

Well we know we went after Adams and Dia so that can't be 100% true
This was the full quote

Southampton’s Che Adams and Salernitana’s Boulaye Dia were discussed on the last day, but ultimately it was agreed that the club would not panic and wait until January.

While there will not be multi-millions to spend in the winter window, Wolves would rather focus on adding a forward who has been properly researched and analysed by the recruitment team.

I think it's badly worded. Rather than panic and pay over the odds when they knew the deals couldn't happen they shelved the plans. Could have got Adams if we changed how we wanted to get him and pay £15m-£20m
Easily could have done another Kiefer Moore style attempt at the death.

I mean you don't really need to research Adams, the data is there. He scored 25 in four seasons in the PL, so around 6 a season, and they tend to come in clusters amidst long barren runs.

I have no problem with them saying no ta to that deal, a loan with no obligation would have been just about ok from our perspective but why would Southampton agree to that.

I think it's a good neutral article for an overall look at what the club did...however frustrated it still pushes the FFP sustainability line, which was never the problem post Neves sale.

The one thing I'd like from these neutral articles - I'm not expecting them to know everything about Wolves, it's only us that talk about us every single day - is saying "hang on, no doubt some of these players were superb for Wolves but they weren't any more and it's fair enough that they were cut loose".

Like Raul still looks like 2021-2023 Raul for Fulham. Which is no good at all for any Premier League club.

They clearly didn't want to overpay for Dia so late in the window, lowballed an offer, unsettled the player and pissed them off. I'm not sure how they'll be more receptive or cheaper to deal with in January tbh.

I think we have done well so far with Hobbs, at least he's got us off the Mendez bandwagon, unearthed a future gem in gomez, and i think a couple more south americans too.

Well, you could argue that they have researched possible targets but they didn't find someone they thought suitable and that's why they looked at a short term loan solution.

Finding a striker is the most difficult task in football because every team wants one and the very best cost a lot of money. That is why we are placing faith in Fabio because he can improve and get better. Oven ready Prem. quality strikers just aren't available that easily.

When we signed Raul, it was something of a gamble given his previous record. We had a style of play that then enabled him to prosper. I'd argue we no longer have a style of play that everyone has bought into. I'd argue that the constant change of manager has had a big impact on that.

You can then argue that this all boils down to our owners not having a clear plan but reality is that the goalposts always seem to move in world football. When Fosun came in, they had realistic ambitions to turn us into a steady Premiership outfit. They achieved it and also achieved the goal of Prem. football. Everything then changed with covid. Everything has changed again with other football markets recruiting some of the top players from the Prem. Further, the cost of such players has risen and it could be argued to an unsustainable level. Time will tell.

For now, I think we just have to remain patient. We have no other choice.

Peep all of us at the 2018 World Cup thinking "oh our new striker just came on! Oh he's playing as a right wingback... Oh he's kind of shit... Oh god what the fuck did we buy".

All of us?

The people that thought we had signed a dud because he was put in a stupid position when his team were down to 10 men are the same people that said Jonny was shit because he spannered his first cross into the Derby fans in a pre season friendly. Not all of us.

Exaggeration purely for funsies. A few of us were definitely at panic stations for a hot minute! Of course, Raúl shut the doubts down pretty quick.
