The Incoming Transfers Everywhere Thread: Summer 2023

All in all, I'm quite happy with the incomings. Excited about the South Americans whom I know nothing about and positive about the Brits that I do know about.

They add competition and depth, every squad needs that. Doyle has the potential to improve massively, while Adams whose 1 in 5 goal rate at Saints is far from devastating is automatically the most proven PL goal scorer in our squad, our other strikers have proven nothing yet.

Poor Sasa's 1 in 2 ratio.

I can see why people are whelmed by Che Adams but he’s a good option to have, especially with Sasa potentially being made of poppadoms.

Also, I’d rather have him than Diego Costa or the Raul of last year. We’re not going to get better many than Adams who are happy to be 2nd/3rd choice.

None of them are bad options but they are players which you would expect to play for teams being relegated.

He won’t be first choice unless he earns it, though. I don’t see how Bueno or Gonzalez are players who play for relegated teams? Unless we are just talking players we’ve been linked to.

If we want to be really pedantic, he scored more than any of our strikers last season, and the season before that…

He will be cover surely. Sasa is going to be first choice when fully match fit and then there is still star boy.

Enso is exciting, in much the same way you mentally spend a few million when you buy a lotto ticket...but you look at the list of ins and outs and you're left with a significant shortfall of talent and potential. P&L will look absolutely boss though

Its great that we are signing people but lets not pretend all is well - at best we are going to spent 30% of the money we received Nunes.

Nothing is well, no, but the squad is in better shape than it was about a week ago.

I’m not for one second saying Che Adams is the second coming of Steve Bull or prime Raul, but he did score more than quite a few of our forward attacking players last year (except maybe Podence). And Adams only scored 5 goals.

Not saying it’s a good thing, but unfortunately it’s what we’ve resorted to after a couple of years of financial mismanagement and not addressing problems that are dated back to 2021.

We've definitely messed things up historically but there is nothing stopping Fosun spending 45m on a striker other than a choice.

Indeed. Although I'm probably not as 'clued up' on who the best strikers are out there, but I'm not sure who we could spend £45m on that would be happy to join and potentially be second/third choice, or hit the ground running straight away (and that's not me saying Adams will, by the way).

All quiet on the goalkeeper merry-go-round it seems?

Also.. used the 5 goals last season as an example of just how piss poor we've been in front of goal. Again, that's not me saying Adams will fix that: if he spoons one over from a yard out I'll be baying for blood as much as anybody, but he has been more prolific in the past three seasons than any striker we've had (granted, Raul suffered an awful injury in one of them).
