The Incoming Transfers Everywhere Thread: Summer 2023

I don't get what Cresswells role will be. Toti plays the positions Cresswell would, albeit Cresswell is a little more refined.

If it's just for set piece delivery that would be odd.

It's the least important position to recruit. Got about 8 options there. Doherty was nuts but probably a Mendes favour. Creswell is inexplicable.
Have we? I'm assuming RAN, Giles and Jonny will leave, which just leaves us with Bueno and a backbup of Toti who does a good job but jot really a LB.

If we get 5m for Giles to then spend all of that on Cresswell I’ll find that quite annoying. I think I’d rather take the chance on Giles now if that’s the case
Definitely. Guessing Cresswell would be more wages too.

I don't really care if we sell Giles. If we've decided that he doesn't fit, which is entirely possible as he hasn't been playing as a LB, and that we can get good value for him off the back of a good few seasons at Championship level then fine.

I don't particularly care if we sell Aït-Nouri either. There's a lot of talent there and there's a small part of me that wants him to make a comeback but again, if we've decided that his face doesn't fit and we can get good value then fine.

I wouldn't even care that much if we sold Bueno tbh at the reported £20M that Newcastle were linked with the other week. He's got potential but he's very inexperienced, if we feel that any offer outstrips that potential then we've got to accept it.

I do care about us wasting £5M on a soon to be 34 year old Aaron Cresswell.

The only logic I can apply is that Lop wants to play a back 5 on occasion. Cresswell and Doc make that a semi-viable, cheap-ish way of doing so.

But as previously.

1) Why sell Coady if you want to do that
2) Why have you never really tried it before
3) You have to play Doherty in a very specific way or he's still fucking shit

And we haven't been any good in that formation for three years.

I'm not saying it's the right thing to do, just trying to make sense of it.

But I'll play anyway :)

1) Shite defender at PL level and means you have to defend deep to cover for his weaknesses.
2) Haven't really had the players before. Semedo cannot play as a wing back
3) Exactly

We probably haven't been any good in that formations due to not having the right players for it.

I think it's fair to say that so far this isn't the transfer window we'd been hoping for. Maybe it's an over-reaction to the Doherty and Cresswell shit, but up until now it's pretty depressing.

Athletic saying 5million.

Most other sources saying 2.5 million
No issues with cresswell tbh. No issue with that sort of signing. 5mil would be madness, though.

I’m hopeful players signed in January (looking at cunha and sarabia) will step up this year which should improve us going forward. It’s not uncommon for players from other leagues to take time to adapt.

Still need some signings Ofcourse though

Kilman still first choice for Napoli but they will wait to see if Wolves lower there valuation of EUR 40m.
Well we won't so up to them to pay what we have said.

No different to our chase for Scott. Unfortunately opinions on here don't count towards anything
