I'd say that's harsh on Coady in a three. Rarely ever let anyone down in that shape.
Fair, but he did and does struggle 1 v 1 and against anyone physical, I felt we had to defend deeper to accomodate him. Maybe we could play a bit higher with a more accomplished defender in there instead?

Our defence was in a straight line with Coady organising, all over the shop since. Playing people onside, and getting dragged out of position.

Yeah, you can't put a price on leadership and organisation. Look at the job Mike Williamson did when he first signed for us, just got us looking like a proper unit without being brilliant himself.

Collins might have been better if he hadn't been next to Max the Mute (not defending his actual performances which were largely shite and way below what you would expect from a £20m player).

If our plan is to buy a few up and coming players like Scott, some potential bargains like the Swiss defender and supplement them with loans and free transfers then I have no problem with that. I'll even put up with having Doherty back if it means we can sign Scott.

What does wind me up is this coming after spending around £170m over the past few years on Cunha, Nunes, Guedes, Silva & Semedo.

Spending £5m on Cresswell would be utterly bizarre. We already own several players who can play his position better.

As PK has said, putting those all in the same bracket is unfair.

Cunha, Nunes and Semedo are nothing like the other two other than they all cost £25m+.

Cresswell perhaps the replacement LCB for Max?

Kilman still first choice for Napoli but they will wait to see if Wolves lower there valuation of EUR 40m.

unlikely I suspect, looking at the images of Harry Searle earlier he was greeted and presented a top by Julen and Max so makes me think he's the new captain to boot, unless he walked in and said Max Kilman is my favourite player of course.

I was just selecting all the players we had spent £25m+ on since the 2020/2021 season. I don't think I missed off anyone else we spent that much on in that time period.

I'd say for all of them the money could have been much better spent elsewhere.

I think Cresswell is a more consistent option than any of those we currently have. Bueno has a very high ceiling but is still very inconsistent. Giles seems to be very much a wingback, RAN is inconsistent too and a number of reports suggest he isn’t happy here. Toti is a steady option but looks like a CH playing FB and Jonny is done. Bueno and Cresswell would be ok and hopefully within a year Bueno will become a regular starter. That said I wouldn’t be spending £5m on him, £2.5m would be ok.

Yeah but it's a clear split between "looks like we paid too much for him but he's alright, he contributes and there might be more to come" and "that was a total waste of money, what on earth were we thinking". They aren't the same thing.

It's like sticking Ade Akinbiyi and Robert Taylor in the same category.

I get it winds you up, but that’s probably also why they’re doing it? Over spent on players, whereas the players we’ve got for lower figures have been more successful. I get that that’s all relative, and you don’t expect as much from someone who’s cost 15m, but I’d imagine that’s why they’ve changed tact.

Also, not saying it works for everyone, but your brightons, brentfords, Fulham’s, don’t regularly spend 30/40m on a single player, few mid table teams do

What works for me is signing players to improve the team or squad. Cresswell and Doherty do neither.
Cresswell will be the best left back at the club until Bueno becomes more consistent.

I don't think he is that level now, he's lost a lot of mobility. In a four at LB he looks a bit Irwin 2004 these days.

Well I'm arguing that selling them to biy Cresswell is a terrible idea.
Well yes I agree but I don't think we are. RAN and Giles will be going anyway, JL doesn't appear to fancy them. In that case then I think Cresswell might be ok as back up, as I said originally, I just think 2.5m is too much, never mind 5m.

Looked ok when I saw him last season. I’ll qualify my statement though, he’d be the best left back if his legs are still up to it.

Bueno is the better player.

No harm having Cresswell as back up if we hadn't got one but we've got 2 players who can back him up not including Jonny
