The Incoming Transfers Everywhere Thread: Summer 2023

I seriously doubt anybody expected bids north of say £10m for Kilman. It’s not exactly a hanging offence.
I didn't expect there to be much interest, particularly after a relatively average season. But definitely would have expected around 20mill. He's left sided which is less common and makes him more valuable, he's on a long contract, has no injury history and isn't a trouble maker on any level.

There's a lot of recency bias here (and DW's OTT criticism permeating as ever...).

He was good in a back 3, and had good games last season too, like most of the squad he was inconsistent. His worst games were towards the end of the season, but he was excellent against Palace and Brentford, and anyone watching him at Molineux over the last 2 months or so would have been impressed.

Obviously for the fees mentioned I'm fully on board with selling him, but this decision is only as good as his replacement.

Comments are more based on agreeing the deal when we signed him though.
At the point we signed him for £40k no one would have honestly believed we would be holding out for $40m before selling him on

Maybe I'm naiive, or want to see the possibility of good happening everywhere, but shouldnt it be part of the duty and responsibility of successful PL clubs to help finance the security and stability of football at all levels? So if Wolves passing on £1m or £5m to a non-league team helps them and potentially many more non-league teams I think that is a good thing and maybe should be a bound in obligation of PL teams in every transfer deal? 0.25% (random figure plucked out of the air) of every transfer sale is passed on to grass roots and non-league football. There's a thought.

But you know, me and my utopian socialist bullshit ideals... It'll never happen.

Yep, I missed the context (y)

Not really. That's what the legislation from the FA and PL is for. They decide what money goes down to the lowest levels. If it's not enough blame them.

Essex Wolf had the most posts on the E&S forum. Did loads of people believe what he wrote every day?

If you're having your mind swayed by me on things you don't really believe, go to a payphone, call your mobile and have a word with yourself.

If someone says something enough times, it becomes the truth.

Particularly if it is presented eloquently. 😘

He said very similar last season. I seem to recall lots of Wolves fans tagging him on social media after we secured safety, because he had commented on Talk Sport with absolute certainty that we were going to be relegated.

His comments need to be taken with a pinch of salt. Ignoring the fact he obviously doesn't like Wolves, he's paid to be controversial (that's what Talk Sport do). It's also been touched on in this very thread a few times, but most people who don't follow Wolves and are only loosely keeping tabs on our business are surprised by us selling so many players.

In our current state of course we look like a favourite to go down.

* manager seemingly uncommitted
* Talk of FFP restrictions
* our best player sold
* a 5-0 defeat in our last game
* squad players leaving/being sold right, left and centre.

It's hardly controversial to suggest we're going to struggle. Especially if you are being paid to talk/write about football at the moment.

Fortunately there are 5 weeks until the season starts.

We were always going to sell Neves, that isn't news and doesn't make us a favourite to go down.

None of the other players that have gone were first team regulars.

It is hysterically ridiculous to suggest we are going to struggle on the back of that. Only the most stupid would believe such a thing, particularly as it is still the first week in July.

We struggled last season, and the squad is currently weaker than what we ended the season with.

If we started the season with the squad we have now (of course we won't) then of course we'd struggle, and that's all the pundits can go off at the moment.

- Manager uncommitted - only if you've just had your paper from late May delivered, and even then it was mostly just noise and shit stirring

- Talk of FFP restrictions - but we know this isn't true, and even if you did believe it, you're watching us sell players for lots of money

- Best player sold - was always highly likely to go, we've got more for him than pretty much anyone expected

- 6-0 defeat - was 5-0 and to a team who came close to winning the league while we've been crap away for absolutely ages and had zero to play for. Don't think that influences anything

- Squad players being sold - good, none of them are good enough
