Depends what else they and everyone else does in the market, but right now, with everyone starting from 0...I wouldn't be putting any money on them finishing above one of Arsenal, United and Liverpool next season, no.

The point is that I thought he'd go to a club where it's just taken for granted that you have it every season. If we do the right sort of business then we could be competing for 6th/7th, as could Newcastle. It's not the giant step forward where you think "yeah, fair enough".
You may be right, bit I suspect you could also be mistaken. I think it is quite possible that within the next 2 seasons it could be Man City and Newcastle competing for the title and the others being the best of the rest. I have a gut feeling that Newcastle are being run extremely well, unfortunately, and their ownership is getting almost everything right, on and off the pitch. But my gut feeling could just be trapped wind.

I just don't think it's an absolute no brainer for him, like we mostly thought any move would be a year or two ago.

If there's a new contract on the table from us then I don't imagine Newcastle's offer will be that much higher. They seem fairly sensible, no Garry Cook or Todd Boehly antics.

If he's that desperate to play in the CL at all costs then obviously he'd go, but none of us know that.

Liverpool have had a shocker of a year and are now very likely to miss out, but you would say that would be the exception. It would be more surprising if they didn't qualify in 2024, 2025 and 2026 than if Newcastle did the same thing.
I think Liverpool need to bring quite a few players in and not sure they will have the resources. They spent the Coutinho money exceptionally well and without it would probably not been challenging City like they did. They need some of their recent sightings like Gakpo and Nunes to step up a level and to hit the ground running with their midfield signings. Add in VVD, Henderson, Salah and Fabhino seem to be declining and I think they are going to find it tough to get back to qualifying for the CL.

Unfortunately I think Wolves to Newcastle is a no brainier on pretty much every level at the moment. More wages, possible Champion's League vs possible Conference League, bigger club, exciting project, and he'll continue to be one of the best players at his club. Other than being settled in the area, there's not a reason to turn them down and stay here

Newcastle making a Sky 7 earlier than I think most predicted means realistically Wolves and everyone else are now relying on seasons like this one where one or more of them are run ineptly to even make the Conference League

Now Ruben has got used to the Wolverhampton accent when he goes out shopping, he'll stand no fucking chance on Tyneside. His wife will wonder why she learnt a bit of English when it's something strangely different up there, plus I don't think Newcastle have many Portugese players do they?
Fish, right out water!

Considering how poorly run Tottenham are at the moment and the likelihood of Kane leaving, I wonder if over the next few years it might simply stay as Sky Six with Newcastle taking their place. They're the only one of that grouping I can see declining.

That's not impossible, the revenue the ground brings on matchday and other events such as the NFL gives them a leg up on everyone else financially though.

Not directly linked but Carlson being sacked is good news

They (Spuds) get a cut of the NFL sales?

Actually looks like due to UEFA's weird reform (which I can't get my head around right now and I'll worry about nearer the time), England might well get 5 CL spots a year from next season. Still means two missing out, even if you say Spurs need a rethink, there'll still be an odd man out.

Yeah, I mean when you put it that way...

Just hadn't occurred to me that they might, for whatever reason.
They get a fee for the rental of the stadium, which is difficult to find, £1m a game from concessions, not that it matters to their revenue but the NFL gave them £10m to lay their pitch

Not sure the best thread to post this, but Raul’s wife is having a pop at Wolves fans on social media. Generally that kind of situation doesn’t end well for either party.

Ah, ignore that. I’ve just seen it’s being discussed in the Palace build up thread.

It was pretty much Vitinha's first full season of men's top flight football.

Regardless of his on pitch performances, he didn't turn into a great player as soon as he left, he always had that ability. We had a player with that talent around the squad for a full season and decided he wasn't worth paying for. Clearly an awful decision.

It was a rubbish decision because at the agreed price we couldn't really lose.

That said he isn't that special, PSG fans hate him.
Semi agree with the first bit. Theoretically couldn’t lose but I’m really not convinced he’d have kicked on here.

No idea what what PSG fans think but I’d take João Gomes over him everytime.
