If we're only looking at an uplift of less than 20% or a change to payment terms, just do it and get the player. He's incredibly highly rated, and we'll almost certainly turn a profit on him, and we're another step to seeing Joe Hodge go out on loan. Yes, it's shady shit, but that happens when dealing with South American clubs. £17m will look like small change in a year or two

Lose-lose. We've done the "just pay more" thing, with Fabio and Semedo. It's been an albatross for each of them.

So we were on the hook to Mendes instead of Flamengo. Either way we paid over the odds.

Then you get bent over (even more) every time you try to do a deal. Don't pay more, set a deadline of the weekend and move on
Agree. If a deal was agreed and they've reneged on it for an extra million then I'd just not deal with them again. Gomes might be a good player, I don't know but it's not a position we are immediately desperate for a player in. If the player wants to come he can ensure the move here goes ahead, if not then we should just move on.

Depends how good we think this guy is / will be. I wouldn't want us to lose out on an exceptional player for a relatively small sum. There must be a value we think this player is worth to us, if fla want more than that then we move on. If we think he's worth a little extra then I guess we pay it.

Theres no guarantee they won't do that anyway. It goes back to whether we think the target is worth what the selling club is asking.

How do we increase our bid if their guy is going "nananananana can't hear you"
