The " Honey I'm home and I'm bloody starving , what's for dinner " Thread.

Literally been in one chippy ever that deep fried mars bars and they only do it as a novelty for tourists.

Charlie's Fish Bar in Wolverhampton used to do them for us when we staggered in drunk after Blast Off at 2.30 in the morning. Looking back, my judgement of how nice they were may have been clouded by the amount of alcohol I'd drunk!

Deep fried Dill Pickles are not nice

They sound disgusting!

I know it's weird but I like it! Comes from my first job, we used to get a Villiers Street lunch special on a Friday - Mini-fish, sausage and chips in a tray for about £2 - came with peas, curry or gravy. Had gravy and never looked back!

Indeed. You just have to smile and nod when Bear and PPB get into food discussions, you wouldn't get into a fevered debate with David Icke on political science. ;)

PPB must spend more on condiments than I do on Wolves tickets.

The delights of a mini special! I once confused the hell out of the woman behind the counter who was posed with the salt and vinegar and asked if I wanted anything on it. My reply of a steak and kidney pie didn't go down to well until I convinced her I was being serious. Mushy peas for me.

You must come round for dinner one evening DW !!

Yes indeed. My condiments come in catering size :)

Every time I come back to UK my first meal is always fish ,chips and mushy peas from Birches Bridge. My plate looks like a 3 year old has been let loose with some paints :)

Great chippy. The fish in there is outstanding. So good it doesn't even need salad cream walloping all over it.

Back from? Just curious always imagined you lived in or around Wolves

Haven't lived in Wolves for a few years now Bubbles, I live in Pittsburgh and have done for nearly 15 years.

No but it does need enough vinegar so the batter goes soggy, then comes the ketchup ;)

I'm gonna defend my main man Machin here.
I love fish, chips, mushy peas & gravy. Nom!

Always loved gravy with chips.

My chippy of choice - Newbridge chippy, with their battered chips. Lush!
Used to like ocean fish bar, but not been there for years.

Here's another one. Chips with curry sauce poured all over them and then tomato ketchup on top all over. It looks like an afterbirth of a mess but tastes awesome!

In my book there are no rules when it comes to putting stuff on food. If you enjoy it, then it works :)

Now chips and gravy are awesome. Loved it when I was at Uni in Preston, they used to do home made gravy in our local chippy and it was amazing. Unfortunately they only ever seemed to open for about 2 hours a day!

Used to go to the Newbridge Fryer when I lived on Parkdale. The chips were indeed impressive.

Chips and gravy is proper Northern stock food. Standard lunch when I first moved to Manc. Although that was in the refectory, oddly there are very, very few actual chippies (not counting Chinese hybrids) up there.
