The " Honey I'm home and I'm bloody starving , what's for dinner " Thread.

Lamb shanks with rosemary gravy and dauphinoise potatoes. I would claim I am doing it myself but it is cheat cookery tonight and all packaged to bung in the oven. If it is shite I will do the meal properly from a recipe another time.

Have you always liked cooking Paddy ?

I was a dreadful cook. I could burn water. Until I got to about 28 and then I decided to put a lot of effort in. Slowly got better.

My brother came over from Oz a few years back and asked for his original brother back and the arrest of the imposter when I served up a meal.

I love cookery now. It is both joy and thereapeutic at times and I love discovering new combinations and new tastes. In short, it is ace.

Why does anyone put tomato sauce on anything? All you do is taste this horrible synthetic tomato taste that ruins anything it goes near, it should be banned.

We are talking burgers and sausages here, hardly the Savoy Grill. Plus sometimes a little slug of tommy sauce into a main sauce can cheaply add a little sweetness to a tomato based concoction. It isn't satan, as long as used sensibly and balanced with a little tomato puree as well.

Do you cook together with Squeeze or do you prefer the kitchen to yourself ?

Tomato puree yes, in cooking, as for burgers and sausages, when I eat them they are homemade (either myself or butchers that I've used for 25 years), I'd rather taste them than tomato sauce thank you very much. Put tomato sauce in my cooking, never ever.

So what does Murphy put on his sausage then ??

Just read your last post. So you put nothing on a burger. Not even onions ?

Well that is a choice. I mean you can use puree and add the sweetness in other ways, but don't forget that the great satan can also act as a thickening agent. When being lazy it can be a boon. Saying that, the marsala sauce I did the other night for pork tenderloin certainly didn't have any heinz anyway near it, because I didn't want to run the risk of overpowering either the pork or the marsala in a sauce I hadn't made before.

Homemade Pea & Ham Soup with homemade buttered crusty bread .

It would depend on what flavour sausage it was. I'm not a great fan of condiments in general as I fail to see the point in masking the taste of what you're eating in the first place. Onions however are not a condiment like tomato sauce, so I'd be perfectly happy to put them on a burger, but not always.

That's like saying you should never cook a suace because it masks the flavour of the meat you're eating.

If it compliments the flavour then it doesn't matter what it is you put on it.

I had HP sauce with my homemade (wife-made) Cottage Pie last night. Bloody lovely, it was. Having the leftovers tonight bulked up with some baked beans and more HP. I'm a classy gent.

You can put any condiment on anything, its an individual thing, just that some peoples combinations are weirder than others !Bacon has to have brown sauce, mushy peas brown sauce, mashed tatas salad cream or tom, chips vinegar and tom, pizza HP sauce, fried eggs tom sauce, baked beans brown, tinned toms brown, battered fish vinegar and tom, jacket potato salad cream, beef stew mint sauce. I wont bore with anymore.

I put mint sauce on any roast dinner. Doesn't matter what meat.

Why are people putting anything on battered fish? It'll go all soggy! You must have some shit chippies near you if you're ruining fish with ketchup or salad cream. :shake:
