The Goggle Box Thread

Cleese is insufferable these days.

And I mean I love Fawlty Towers and I can accept things as a product of their time, but you are not getting away with anything even close to Manuel or The Major these days.

Sadly Forces TV has closed. That was its natural home.

Wasn't the whole point of Fawlty Towers and its status the minimalism? Which Gervais then copied with The Office and Extras. A dozen or so very high end, no filler episodes and that'll do, not drag it out forever (though I wish Gervais had kept Derek to 0 episodes).

Also Cleese is 83. Am I supposed to believe he's got the manic energy of 70s Basil Fawlty now?

It's gonna be an an awful anti-woke piece, isn't it 🤮

JK Rowling sure to make a guest cameo.

FFS, leave old programmes alone, one of the reasons Cleese only did as many as he did was cos it wouldn't take any more.
Hate it when they kick the arse out of good programmes or try and bring them back years later, it's always shit.

There was only a 5 year gap between what was supposed to be the final Only Fools and the 2001 Christmas special (followed by two more).

The 2000s episodes were absolutely fucking shit, 2/10 at absolute best.

Fawlty Towers' final episode was 43 years ago and counting, so good luck with that one.

First series of Watery Fowls was 1974. It took Cleese five years to be persuaded to do the second six. No way on earth you make it now. The Major is an appalling racist and the Germans episode (hilarious as it is) is utterly beyond the pale in modern moral terms.

Cleese has spent the last decade whining about how comedy is woke and unoriginal, only to reboot his own work. Makes you wonder what his self-cancellation was all for?

You would presume he would go down a different character route

Although it sounds like Fawlty will be the one who still thinks it the 70's.
Waiter will be Romanian or similar and
1 permanent guest will be a Farage type.

May I suggest Laurence Fox to play the latter role?

If he got it , luckily he wouldn't need to act

Or could get Howard from the Halifax adverts to play himself.

Graham Linehan to do a bit of writing.

Ah Linehan...the daft fuck.

How to destroy a career and personal life in a short space of time on Twitter.

He could have survived the original comment, the doubling and trebling down did for him

There's a man who jumped off the cliff some time ago. No saving him.

This all went on for years before he got banned from Twitter. He's back now and just try to read through one day of him on there. It's exhausting.

Had to bin all his TV worked...Well I say had, he was booted off the writing team of Motherland (no shock as his ex wife is a writer on the show).

Father Ted the Musical binned as no one will work with him.

I tried to read his Twitter the other week and gave up. Think he tries to get cash from gofundme type places now to fund the many legal battles he got involved in.

It's a subject I don't really comment on as I don't feel informed enough to have a worthwhile opinion in such a nuanced area. He moved from opinion to hatred a long time ago.
