Exactly, that's the problem. There's a reason football is more popular than the rest by a huge margin.
That reason isn't because the Premier League is operated the same as Sunday League.

Obviously.

You can't see any risks in messing with the formula that's made football the most popular sport in the world? If football was still just a referee and two linesmen, would it really be any more unpopular than it is today?

The tinkering might make it better and more popular, but it could equally go the other way. VAR has definitely taken away some of the enjoyment for me for example, would I have still gotten into football if VAR was about 20 years ago? I don't know, maybe, maybe not.

How are viewing figures stacking up since VAR was introduced? Doesn't feel like it's an less popular to me, just provides something else for people to whinge avout.

To be honest mate it's not something I've given loads of thought to, it's just a general sense I get and it might just be down to me getting older and less inclined to be open to change in general.

If it can eliminate the lull of a potential check for offside I don't have a problem with it.

If it creates more delay it shouldn't be implemented.

Sounds like exactly like now tbh. They get an alert that it might be offside, but it'll only get referred to VAR if there's a goal.

They need to tidy up the "delay" thing anyway - there was one at the very end of Chelsea vs Man Utd yesterday where Ronaldo was a good yard offside, the lino let it go as per instruction, Ronaldo doesn't shoot and it goes out for a corner which should never have existed. Can open, worms everywhere if United score a winner off that with seconds to go.

As well as the potential for players getting injured in situations that shouldn't even occur (wasn't van Dijk last season along those lines?). No problem with them not showing a premature flag where there's reasonable doubt - remember Jota at Bournemouth a couple of years ago, VAR was in operation and we still got robbed of a valid goal due to crappy officials - but it was obvious in that instance yesterday that it wasn't even close, and even so, they should have the common sense to say "no, you can't have a corner off that".

VVD was just offside but it was incredibly close. No way a flag would have stopped the lunacy by Pickford. Trouble is VAR spotted the offside and ended the check for a penalty at that point when the challenge should have been a straight red for violent conduct, making the offside irrelevant in the card, if not the penalty.

Didn't Patricio get injured on an obvious one last season? Liverpool?

The VVD decision created a precedent that in theory you could punch a player in the face and get away with it because VAR shows them as just offside so the bit of play with the punch doesn’t exist. That’s clearly a nonsense and you would walk for the punch as violent conduct. Pickford’s assault was a similar level of offence.

That was absolutely fucking ludicrous. Even Tyler forgot his bias for a split second. I just don't get how incompetent the officials are now, linesman didn't flag because of stupid rules even though the offside was plain as day, but because the player didn't shoot VAR doesn't get involved and because there was no flag the advantage goes to the side getting the unfair advantage... The game's gone fucking mental.

The linesman is supposed to flag when the chance goes. It's incompetent from him rather than VAR...and I fucking hate VAR!

I just don't understand what City are doing this for. They set up a big fund for victims right? So they want to be seen to be doing that but not actually taking responsibility? Or am I reading wrong?

Bundesliga introducing 50% capacity, max 15000 due to Covid.
