Just googled it, it was QPR in 1981, other teams were Luton, Preston and Oldham
I only saw one plastic pitch game away at Preston last game of the Div 3 season. I think it was 3 3. Ridiculous they let games be played on that really.

Got some bad news for you about Charlotte FC...

Guessing their artificial pitch is the latest style. A million miles from the 80's plastic pitches

Missed Keef's post saying QPR had artificial turf in '81!

Yeah, I can imagine it has improved in the last 40 odd years. 😅

Burntwood Rec had one and was seen as a mecca of South Staffs at the time. I'd be even more overweight if I'd not lost half a stone off my legs on that
Similar across the Wolverhampton pitches. Still got the scar where I burnt the skin off my knee. Stung like a bastard that did.

Just had a look.
Proper dodgy owners and they get relegated to L1.
In L1 things got worse and ended up selling anyone of value and got a 10 point penalty as they went into Administration.
L2 they had 10 points deducted by the FA for irregular matters involving player transfers and 20 points by the Football League for breaking rules on exiting administration.
Down to the Conference they went
We got Dave Edwards on the cheap(ish) because of their financial issues, when Jez loved that tactic. And then I had to put up with him for nearly 10 years.

As for plastic pitches; no doubt Oldham under Joe Royle were a good team in the late 80s/early 90s but they definitely benefited hugely from having one, from memory their home record was off the scale. The ball bounced like it was on the Moon.

Not only would you take the skin off your thigh/ knee via the equivalent of diamond sandpaper but said sand would be stuck in the wound and sting like nothing you've ever experienced before in the shower

Great memories.

Then the new style pitches meant you were picking up bits of rubber at home for days after your trainers somehow filled up with 3 tons of the stuff every week.

Being a gentlemen who likes to think he's welcoming of our international friends I was just looking to speak in terms he understands. Others are just Little Englanders 😃
Tbf "hockey" with no qualifiers means the chilly type over here. 🙂

Devils lost 😔. I've now seen all 4 major American sports live. I can't really include NFL as I'm invested, but of the other 3 it's clearly the most fun fan experience for me and the most entertaining. NBA is all about the 4th quarter and where the game is at then and MLB just is....long although I've been a few times as I like the spectacle

I couldn't give a shit about the use of Soccer, don't get the fuss about that at all, at least it's accurate.
But there's no such sport as "field hockey" and it really grates... 😬

Slight sideways step...
I had our whole back lawn done with artificial grass.
Reasonably long, and indeed a couple of tons of sand brushed into it, which.... apparently helps to keep the blades upright AND, keeps it down, stops the wind getting under it and moving it.
No more muddy dog prints in the nice clean house.

We had to go artificial grass as our Springer is allergic to grass. Top stuff doggo
