The Football News Thread 2017/18 - everything not Wolves

I'm following a cycling blog as he goes across Burma,he's had nothing but hassle and grief off the police/security forces, their favourite trick appears to be nicking him, holding him in the cells for a few nights, releasing him then nicking him a few hundred Kms up the road, taking him back to his start point and then doing it all over again, there's only one road so they know where he's going, can think of better places to go

Tbf Burma is an amazing country, people are very nice (if you take the Islamic hatred out of it) and Yangon will be pretty close to as safe as anywhere - although Leeds fans will have to consider the very respectful culture in the country, and they love football in the country - I made a few of them into Wolves fans when I lived there in 2003 just as we got promoted! The biggest concern though is both the legimacy it lends the military crimes in Rakhine state, but worse and yet to be mentioned in the media is that the bank sponsoring this is owned by Zaw Zaw- who in turn has direct involvement in the development of Rakhine state at the moment, which in turn is one of the he causes of Rohingya displacement in the state. Zaw Zaw is also chairman of the Myanmar FA which calls the legimacy back into question.

There is a shedload of old stuff I would love to see in both Myanmar and Cambodia. Trouble is both countries are a mess at the mo. One day I will get to Angkor Wat, but not just at the mo I think!

Don't believe all the hype. Yes there is some horrible shit going on in the border regions but Yangon, Mandalay and Bagan are safe and you won't be visiting anywhere else. If you want to visit Burma, do it now - it's only going to be a construction yard for the next 20 years and lots of tourists which can still just about be avoided now (went back twice in 2016). And Cambodia is only terrible from a democracy point of view. Unless you are going there to protest, again you're completely fine. You just need to know what to expect with the touts around Ankor Wat and know your maximum price for various things (Siem Reap is just full of tourists too - you won't stand out).

On the same basis as the above with political messes, you'd be choosing to avoid Thailand too - probably more terrorism threat there right now than Burma. But the reality is quite different and all are fine, just respect the locals like you would anywhere! And don't do what I did which was to organise a vigil in the centre of Bangkok by the British Embassy when Jo Cox was murdered - we ended up with 30 armed police coming to visit us...!

Just read this incredible stat.

-----------------------------------

On Sat 21st April 2018, Gainsborough Trinity (established in 1873) were relegated from the National League North. It is the first time they have ever been promoted or relegated in their entire history.

-----------------------------------

145 years in the same division!

They have moved Divisions (restructuring etc) and they did finish bottom of the football league once but relegation wasn't around then but they weren't re-elected to the league

Sell sell sell! Use the money on something useful (heavily subsidised coaching, grassroots football, reducing inequality between the divisions, whatever you like) and we don't even need to replace it given how many top class stadia we have in the country.

Agree, but I'm not convinced the FA will use the money effectively at all.

Definitely sell! It was loads better when a combination of Cardiff and big grounds around the country were used while they were building it in the first place.

I'm sick of the fucking sight of it. I only want to see it for cup finals, not every England match, semi finals etc etc. Plenty of other excellent stadia in this country - use them every so often. I wish the Milennium Stadium hosted football more often - fabulous stadium, perfect city centre location - all things considered I prefer it to Wembley TBH.

Hopefully the end to the stupid semi-finals of the FA cup at Wembley. Use it for finals if we must and I'm another for seeing the England team tour around the country at different stadia.

There will be an England game played away from Wembley this year. I think the game in September

One of the pre-World Cup friendlies isn't at Wembley...why they've picked the relic that is Elland Road though is anyone's guess.

Some fun in the League of Wales.

Bangor City, currently sitting 3rd in the table and set to qualify for the Europa League qualifiers have been denied a Tier 1 and UEFA License by the FAW. Those Licenses are required to play in the WPL and any European Comp. So regardless of their finishing position they will be demoted to the 2nd tier and denied access to the Europa League.
