The Football News Thread 2017/18 - everything not Wolves

No VAR for us next season. Good, we clearly don't have officials capable of using it properly at present.
Seems the PL want the communication both inside the ground and on TV improved before they will start using it.

Jay Rodriguez cleared by FA of using discriminatory language towards Brighton’s Gaetan Bong

I said at the time after watching it live and seeing pictures, and watching Videos he was commenting on his Breath smelling.
If i was Rodriguez i would sue for defamation of character.
It was fecking obvious to a blind man what he said

Bong thought he heard a racist comment so he had every right to report it and the FA had to deal with the matter, which has been done

Yez but it's still an accusation thats defamation of character he should sue.

He could be the result will be same as this case. The panel have basically reported they can't say if a racist comment was made or not rather than fully clearing Roddy.

Not proven is not the same as not guilty. I would imagine both parties will be disappointed with the outcome

There is zero reason for Bong to make something like that up. I fully trust he believes his accusation, even if he ultimately was mistaken.

In his evidence to the FA, Bong said he was "100% certain" Rodriguez, 28, said to him: "You're black and you stink."

Rodriguez, who had a personal hearing with the governing body on Wednesday, denied saying this, insisting it had been: "Breath fucking stinks."

The FA employed two lip-reading experts to watch slow-motion footage of the incident.

In the reasons explaining its verdict, the FA said the "essential issue for us boiled down to one question - are we satisfied the player [Rodriguez] probably said to GB [Gaetan Bong]: "You're black and you stink'?

It said the two lip-reading experts "could not help" on this "core issue".

"The player's mouth was obscured, and neither could see sufficient to interpret his moving lips," the FA said.

"After much deliberation we were left in the position where the case distilled to the evidence of each player. We could not say that any of the other evidence or competing arguments lead us to prefer one over the other."

The FA said it was "completely satisfied" 29-year-old Bong's complaint was "made in absolute good faith" and "there has been no suggestion that this was a malicious or fabricated complaint".

..

What a load of fucking bollocks that is.

An accusation that is unproven is not defamation you muppet.

I heard yesterday he was taking legal advice with a view to sue.
The very fact he was accused of raciat comments and there will still be people questioning him is the reason he should sue.

Ir's too eazy to start shouting racism.

Ffs.

So in a case that has not been proven, you have just randomly decided to side with Rodriguez? We don't know either way, but if someone feels that they have been abused in some way (in many forms) then we have to encourage them to have the confidence to speak out, or nothing will ever fucking change will it.

But then you probably don't like change I am guessing

The verdict leaves every possibility open, doesn't it.

- Rodriguez was racist towards Bong, but there's no way you can prove it (I find this fairly unlikely, but you never know)
- Bong heard something that sounded like a racist insult, misheard it, Rodriguez insists it was merely a childish barb (outs J-Rod as a bit of a prick, but fairly likely)
- Bong totally made it all up (highly unlikely)
