The Football News Thread 2017/18 - everything not Wolves

Not self inflicted as such but Sergio Aguero was involved in a bad car accident in Amsterdam last night, breaking his ribs and set to be out for a couple of months.

He was in a taxi heading for the airport after attending a concert of a Colombian singer

I thought there may have been a Roy of the Rovers thread, but the search function didn't find it (or I'm rubbish at searching!), anyways:

My grandad lord bless him got me ROTR every week as a nipper. I used to run into his house and straight to his rocking chair. The comic was always waiting under the cushion.

I loved ROTR. Didn't he have to have his legs amputated after a helicopter crash or something ridiculous like that?

My favourite was Hamish Balfour. He was ace.

He had his left foot amputated, so no more famous Roy Race Rockets.
Durrells Palace, Mighty Mouse, The Safest Hands In Soccer, Dexters Dozen, Billys Boots.

Ah, childhood!

UEFA Nations League to replace standard Friendlies

DL2QD9vW4AAvBBJ.jpg:large

England will start in League A
Wales, Rep Ireland and Northern Ireland in B
Scotland in C

At least all friendlies will be against countries of a decent standard - no complete mismatches that teach us nothing about England's progression (or lack of!)

Qualifying spots for Euro 2020 also means it should be competitive. Only thing would be if you qualify through this, you drop to having meaningless friendlies for 18 months

Villa owner fined £4k by the FA for Tweeting about the ref after they beat Bolton. He tweeted "Is the ref a AV hater?" after Neil Taylor was sent off

Some form of internet fraud going on among the Scottish clubs. Clearly clever thieves have tried to empty their coffers, and have got about £47 in clydesdale bank notes.

Persela Lamongan goalkeeper Choirul Huda has passed away following a mid-game collision.

Huda was essentially the Indonesian Totti. He made his debut for Persela in 1999 and never entertained leaving.

He was knocked unconscious claiming a high ball near the end of the first half and had died by the time the rest of the team made it to the hospital after the match.

Tragic.

That's absolutely awful.

Those teams have such dedicated, passionate supporters. It will have affected so many people.

Newcastle up for sale. Great opportunity for a big money overseas investor...if you didn't have to deal with Mike Ashley to get control in the first place.

He'll want every single penny back that he's ever loaned/invested and they simply aren't worth what he's loaded onto the club. If they were going for a realistic price relative to their current stature while factoring in potential (as we were sold for, both times we changed ownership in the last decade) then it'd be a no brainer.

Decent opportunity for someone - though as you say dealing with Ashley is a very large factor which will make many stay well clear
