The Film Thread

I watched Shaun again after World's End and I have to say that the latter probably might just edge it, although I'd have to watch WE again before committing to that opinion.

I went to watch Captain Phillips last night with Tom Hanks in it.

Really enjoyed it actually and well worth a watch - 7/10.

Saw trailers for The Railway Man, Anchorman 2 and one about Slavery (which I can't remember the name of) that have all gone on the watch list.

I'm looking forward to The Railway Man - the book is fantastic. Very, very moving story.

I've not read the book, will have to have a look at it.

The other one I was on about is 12 Years a Slave about Solomon Northup - looks good.

You've also got the main man Idris Elba as Mandela coming up too although I'm not sure how good the review are for that.

I'll bring The Railway Man (the book, not Colin Firth) to the Western on Tuesday if you're coming to that game mate?

I really want A Long Walk to Freedom to be a good film because it's one of the best books I've ever read.

Watched Law Abiding Citizen last night with Gerard Butler in it, not really a movie fan but I quite enjoyed it.

I'm sure Langers has a suitable .gif response for this:

Any good?

Carrotdude got it pretty spot on imo (see below).
In some respects it is a pretty intense film. It's well done, in the claustrophobia of space is well done.
Elements of it make you feel a little uncomfortable. I wouldn't say I relaxed whilst watching it.
At the same time, it didn't drag, indeed it flew by, so I was engaged.
A couple of small things about the ending annoyed me, but I won't post yet.

Just back from seeing Gravity. Quite simply it's magnificent, visually the best film I've ever seen and it's just brilliantly made. A complete rollercoaster and very intense and at times stressful so I'm not sure how 'enjoyable' it is but seriously one that needs to be watched in 3D on the big screen.

Saw Don Jon last night. decent enough. About one guys addiction to porn and how it ruins his relationship with his dream girl.

Scarlett Johansson in a film about porn? Count me in!

I think however the film ended would have been open to criticism so it was a tricky one. It's a film you could probably find holes in if you wanted to (or were a physicist) but I loved it.

actually, what annoyed me the most, was how clean sandra bullock was when she got up after the landing. Dunno why, but it really pissed me off! Almost all the rest I could deal with (though wasn't sure about the whole clooney return bit
