The Film Thread

Aaah the old 'I don't like it. it must be shite' argument, what about Tommy, Jesus Christ Superstar, Hair ??

They're all utter dreck. It's called an opinion.

They lack any sort of plot or if they do have one it's thinner than Pablo's hairline and they take an age to get to any sort of point and have zero character development.

Having said that I like The Greatest Showman and Rocket Man both of which manage to further the story without having to stop, wait for somebody to sing, dance and generally turn sets into strictly come dancing

The Disney musicals are particularly terrible as well as Grease and any other tosh from the 70's

Hamilton was superb, not sure if its a film (yet) though.

Grease and Oliver would be in my Top 3 films in terms of number of times I've watched them

not quite as bad as on the music thread when people say things like "i've never heard of any of this. how can you seriously like it all?"

And all Star Wars films are a bag of wank..........your move Mr langers

Fiddler On The Roof and Paint Your Wagon are both great entertainment, but a lot of musicals are shite. To paraphrase Peter Griffin, they insist upon themselves.

I am going to agree with Bear - Once More With Feeling is one of the absolute best episodes of Buffy.

i'm pretty sure that was the sentiment of a couple of your posts on the thread.

It wasn't though was it ? I asked you a civil question on another thread that you've totally misquoted it for some reason ?

I managed to blag free tickets and backstage access for Oh What A Night with Kid Creole in 2002. Great fun that. Nice guy too.

Not sure I'd ever spend my own money going to one (a play with some songs in it is a bit different) bar probably the mooted Father Ted that was supposed to be coming out, but clearly won't be any time soon...

I'm a big Abba fan but I don't really want to hear someone else singing their songs.

You think that, but when you're in a theatre with good acoustics and they're belting out ABBA songs, you find it's actually good fun.

We saw Mama Mia in London last Nov and I really enjoyed it. The acting was a bit cringe but the songs were top notch. They finish with Waterloo and the whole place was up on their feet dancing by then.

While we're on the subject, how did Pierce Brosnan ever get a part in the film :icon_lol:

I've a lot of time for the big man, superb actor but he categorically CANNOT sing!

We will Rock You onstage is fantastic.

When I were very young we went to see Barnum at the Palladium with Michael Crawford in the lead. It was a brilliant experience.

Oh he was woeful.

Ive actually never seen the movie Mama Mia but a few years ago, I flew to Madrid to see some friends and we drove up to Bilbao to visit one of the girls boyfriends. It took 5hrs and the only tape they had in the car was Mama Mia. So we listened to it on repeat for 5hrs...... :killa:

The stage musical is infinitely better than the film which is borderline unwatchable
