The Film Thread

I went to see Tarantino's new film Once Upon A Time In America on Saturday.

It's far too long at 2hr 40min but there are some good scenes, mainly involving Brad Pitt who's the best thing in it. I thought I was going to end up disappointed overall, but then the final act kicked in for the last 20 min, concerning the Manson murders. And wow it was just brilliant. Absolutely bonkers violent but hilarious at the same time. Classic uber-Tarantino and it more than made up for the previous sprawling 2 hours.

Sounds like the movie equivalent of a Ruben Neves performance....

Funnily enough I did give it a 6/10...

Both Anchormans were hilarious.
Bite me.

A new contender for the worst film I have ever seen - Surrounded. About some annoying teenagers who get stalked by sharks when their plane crashes into the sea. You can find it on Netflix - it's so incredibly awful, it's hard to turn it off. And I don't mean intentionally bad like Sharknado - this is just dreadful in every way. The acting is dreadful, the CGI makes it look like a bad GCSE project, the plot... well, that must have got lost somewhere. A few quite golden lines ("We had a raft.... but the sharks ate it...")

It has big sharks which growl and eat anything and everything, and are cunning etc etc. That's the best thing I can say about it.

Not laughed so hard at a film for ages.

The Meg. Can’t believe I got dragged to the cinema to watch that.

One for the ladies, Downtown Abbey the movie was wonderful. From the continued storylines, the costumes, the one liners from Maggie Smith, and the characters we now love. No surprise that there's probably another one in the making in a year or two. Loved it.

Upgrade, watched this Sunday night while I was stuck on the settee. Decent(ish) cyberpunk movie where a bloke an his wife get attacked when their auto pilot car goes astray into a dodgy area. She dies and he ends up a quadriplegic. Enter Stem, a nano chip embedded into his nervous system which gives him control of his body back, sort of. Nothing that hasn't been covered before and pretty thin in terms of character depth but still worth a watch if you're into that kind of thing.

Going to watch Brawl in Cell Block 99 later.

I watched Upgrade a couple of months back. It was alright. Nothing special.

Brawl in Cell Block 99. Unless you’re into ludicrous, over the top, impossible mindless violence then give it a miss. Shame as the first half was actually pretty decent.

my word. what is this new rambo film? who thought that was a good idea?
