The Film Thread

Went to watch Rocketman at the weekend. I enjoyed this and you can see the influence of Matthew Vaughn in this as the visuals are stunning in places.

Taron Egerton is fantastic as Elton.

Watched this a couple of weeks ago.

Like that is essentially shown from a view point that Elton was high as a fucking kite when telling the story. Good use of the songs to link up parts of his life, especially when it fast forwards a few years

It certainly wasn't shy of painting Elton as a bit of a fuck up. Very brave of him considering.

I hated La La Land and when the first ensemble dance number came on I thought I was going to hate Rocket Man as it was looking the same but it soon dispensed with that rubbish and told the story.

Watched Free Solo recently about a guy that likes to climb rather large walls without a rope. Its a great watch and I had very sweaty palms throughout.

Agree with all that Johnny.

Just been to see Dark Phoenix. It's not as bad as all the reviews suggest. I don't think it was the worst of them, just not as good as some of the previous ones.

Sophie Turner isn't really the best actor though. I watched Killing Eve S2 this week, and Jodie Comer would have been a much better Jean Grey.

Saw Late Night last night. Really good film with Emma Thompson as a late night chat show host about to be replaced by a new presenter. Really simple concept and very enjoyable stuff. John Lithgow is excellent as her husband. Definitely on the recommend list.

I would watch it but that Mindy woman possesses an offensive lack of talent and an annoying voice.

It's really good. Saw it at the lighthouse with a very pleasant glass of shiraz in my hand which just massively helps the cinema experience.

Haven't been in the Lighthouse for over 20 years, might give it a go again sometime if there's something decent on. Interview With A Vampire was the last film I saw there.

We saw Three Billboards there last year.

It is a very civilised cinema experience.

The theater has to be pleasant to help you get through that film, tbf.

If you ever make it to Wolvo Alan, then the Lighthouse is an experience you should try. Lovely building with a stunning covered courtyard and bar where you can sit and have a few pleasant drinks before wandering over to watch, and then you can always pop back for another round. Miles better than popcorn and coke at the standard cinemas. Yes, it isn't mainstream films but it is a totally worthwhile trip out. I much prefer it.

Not a huge movie buff but that does sound like an absolutely lovely way to spend an evening. I'll add it to the list, mate.

The last independent cinema I went to was to see Eastern Promises at The Broadway in Nottingham, which was a really nice place.

Played a gig in the courtyard once, I was ill as fuck and just stood at the back doing what needed to be done. Shame, would have been a brilliant night otherwise.

Flicking through Netflix the other day and came across a film called 'A Perfect Day' good film, but I was mesmerised by the French actress in it Mélanie Thierry, I have initiated divorce proceedings with the current wife and am saving up for a romantic meal for me and Mélanie, she can even have her meal supersized if she so wishes !!

Isn't that her out of Inglorious Basterds, that works in the cinema?

Edit - No. That's Melanie Laurent. I much prefer her tbh.
