The Film Thread

Mariah Carey has a five octave vocal range, and most of her stuff has been shit, especially when she starts squeaking.
Didn't fully appreciate Queens music till I was older, but Freddy was a true showman.

How about a bit of minimalism in your front man? Jack Johnson can hit exactly three notes, no more, no less.

BD was known as the air raid siren for a reason. Yes he can't do it quite so much now, but in the mid eighties it was incredible.

Also a superb front man as well.

Shall I kick off an argument about the quality (or lack thereof) of his performance for Live After Death, then?

You can. And you will be utterly wrong.

At least we agree on Beast Over Hammersmith being a superb performance. I have seen Maiden loads of times and Bruce has always been fantastic. Blaze Bayley was fucking awful though.

Ian Gillan must have had a good range on him too.

Child in Time certainly suggests it!

Mind you range isn't everything in a front man. James Hetfield has a VERY limited range. But, like Bruce, he has the crowd in the palm of his hand for the entire gig. And that was Freddie's genius as well.

Blaze was always a weird choice for the band and I don't think Harris did him any favors by having him try to imitate Bruce in live performances if Bruce's songs. But hey ho, old ground.

Beast Over Hammersmith is fucking immaculate, end of.

Jack Black's a decent enough front man (considering what type if band he's in) and he has an excellent range too. Master Exploder intro he goes from right down low to like a really high C or G in one breath.

While BD has a greater range, I actually preferred the sound of Paul DiAnnos voice

Michael Hutchence - Pretty fucking amazing front man....and has been dead over 20 years!

Rob Halford - ridiculous vocal range. Listen to Exciter, Freewheel Burnin' or Painkiller for the evidence.

Justin Hawkins from the darkness has a good range on him,and they're a fantastic night out.
Re queen, not a fan,did like them when I was younger, but not now,can never forgive them for fat bottomed girls, awful record
