The Film Thread

Justin Hawkins from the darkness has a good range on him,and they're a fantastic night out.
Re queen, not a fan,did like them when I was younger, but not now,can never forgive them for fat bottomed girls, awful record

That was on Jazz. 1978 seems a fair old time to hold a grudge.

Plus it is a great drop d riff in there.

You love The Darkness but don't like Queen?!

That's very odd.

Fat Bottomed Girls is an awesome track btw.

Bohemian Rhapsody is absolutely epically amazingly fucking brilliant. Awesome film. I loved every second of it.

Can I have love the Beatles despise oasis?
I was 10 when fat bottomed girls came out, discovered queen early 80s,just as they discovered synths,I'll put it here, feel free to pisstake,my favourite queen records are
Breakthrough
Hammer to fall
Crazy little thing called love.
I'm aware of the darkness/queen thing, the darkness love queen so much, they've got roger Taylor's son on drums, and John deacon is the only one of queen to have any credit left tbh,he's not taken part in any of the dead horse flogging that Taylor and may have done in tarnishing the queen brand.
Still not as bad as status quo, with one original member left,or Dr feelgood with no original members in it at all,I love Dr feelgood, but not going to give my money to them now, they might as well go the whole hog,and franchise the name out to anyone who wants to be wilko Johnson or the big figure.
Finally I've no idea what a drop d riff is,or what it sounds like,I've no musical talent at all,but I was once the triangle player in a reggae band, dead easy,I just stood at the back and ting!

Right - drop D is a guitar tuning. A standard guitar tuning is to E and you play the chords as normal. But if you drop the top E (the thickest string) by two tones to D, you get a completely different sound - and that is the sound of the riff in Fat Bottomed Girls. It is thick and quite heavy, even through a Vox AC30 like Brian May uses.

You are more than welcome to love Beatles despise Oasis. It is the other way round that would be a bit odd!

Hammer to Fall is a fantastic choice. I would add my personal favourite It's Late.

Basically I like the Brian May stuff!

Two semi-tones [emoji6]

Yeah yeah I know. I was going to say two notes, and then thought that's wrong obvs and then typed the same fucking thing with a different word. Arse.

That first bit,I recognise the words, the order they're in makes a sentence, but nope still means nothing,no matter how you explain it,I understand what a guitar is,and different makes,I know of Gibson Les Paul's and fender strats, but they're just guitars to me,I can't get the nuances and differences between the two, because I don't play any instruments, never have, you might just as well explain the differences between similar woodworking tools, because I can't do carpentry either, much to my dads eternal annoyance

Basically the lowest string on the guitar is tuned even lower which makes it slacker and gives that slightly grungier, heavier sound when playing a power chord.

Now that's an explanation I understand, thanks Mr The Bear

For Fender Strat, think Mark Knopfler. For Gibson Les Paul, think Slash.

Watched What We Do In The Shadows last night. Mockumentary about a group of vampires starring Jermaine Clement. Really silly and brilliantly funny. Gets a solid recommendation from me [emoji106]

I listen to Adam Buxton's podcast with Tash Demtriou the other day where they were talking about it. That's what prompted me to watch it.

I watched that with a mate a while back. One of the worst things we've ever seen. Turned it off before 45 mins. Just staggeringly unfunny.

Same NZ director who did Hunt For The Wilderpeople (which I haven't bothered watching because of that). Thankfully he didn't fuck up Thor Ragnorok.

Hunt for the Wilderpeople is a great movie. Heartwarming, uplifting... All the fuzzy feels basically.

Not enough fit birds in it for you?
