The Film Thread

Yep. Can't stand Queen. Though a film about Mercury would have been interesting. Sacha Baron Cohen said he heard amazing stories about him when he was working on the film but the band wanted to make a much more conservative biopic.

The story goes that Brian May wanted the film to be half about Freddie...and then the other half after he died and how the band went from strength to strength :icon_lol: So he walked.

No idea if it's actually true.

Given what I've read about May's ego it wouldn't surprise me.

Yes it is, he said it on a Howard Stern interview although he didn't name which Queen member wanted it that way.

Watched a show on Queen and get the impression it was always a struggle of the band trying to tone down Freddie.

Aside from the music there was the decision to play Sun City.

Wow ! I've spent two nights at Sun City (post apartheid) I hope you don't hold that against me :)

I love Wiener schnitzel although I do not condone the actions of the Germans during the 30's and 40's

I absolutely love Queen - always have done. They're my son's absolute favourites so they get played a lot in our house.

I never tire of watching their live shows either. No-one comes close to Freddie as a front man.

He was great I agree but there have been some fantastic front people. Our very own Robert Plant is pretty good, Jagger, McCartney, Bowie, Daltrey, Morrison, Tyler, Prince and Hendrix are the ones that spring to my mind. It's pretty good company.

I've always liked Queen, the songs are camp and fun. Muse without the paranoia.

Yeah I love all those you've listed. Seen 4 of them (not likely to see Jim Morrison, Prince or Hendrix though sadly).

Couldn't agree more and his vocal range was stunning !

Indeed it is, one of those where the clue is in the title.

Apologies re edited

Good news, too, as the rest of the band could be awkward as fuck to watch (or the come off that way over video, anyway).

Queen's music was never for me but I have a lot of time for Mercury as a person and musician; would that I had the sheer courage to live in my own skin the way he lived in his. Bicycle Race is a proper tune, though.

Not even close .

Apples and oranges innit.

BD was known as the air raid siren for a reason. Yes he can't do it quite so much now, but in the mid eighties it was incredible.

Also a superb front man as well.
