The Film Thread

I fully agree. Especially with No.3.

Agree with Bear re Get Out. Didn't think it was anything special at all.

Haven't seen it but most of the positive reviews I read said it wasn't really a horror film?

I also would imagine that most of the racial commentary in it wouldn't translate to non-American audiences (tho obviously that's just conjecture on my part).

I thought Get Out was great but it’s not really as much of a horror film as I was expecting. It’s intriguing throughout and is good at being creepy but I don’t think it’s scary or particularly trying to be.

saw Get Out a few months back. enjoyed it but I’d agree with bear about it being predictable esp once you knew what was going on. having said that iirc it had some nice touches with refs to other movies. better than just run of the mill. I’d say something like don’t breathe is far far better though.

Don't Breathe is really good.

I've been meaning to watch Get Out for a while and haven't yet got round to it. I'll try and watch it this week.

Get Out. What weird shit was all that about :icon_lol:

Wouldn't class it as horror but I really enjoyed this one

Borg vs McEnroe. For people that remember the rivalry between these two, this ones worth a watch.

Just back from seeing 3 Billboards and will agree with others: great film. Frances McDormand, Woody Harrelson and Sam Rockwell are simply superb. If McDormand doesn't win an Oscar for her performance I'll be stunned.

Get Out is a great film. Would say it's quite different because it's not really a horror. Overall plot does become quite predictable yes but so are most films, the way it gets there though is what makes it a great film.

Saw 3 billboards earlier and agree that it's a fantastic film. Got a bit of everything in it and fantastic performances from cast, Dixon is a superb character.

Next films on my 'to see' list:

1. I, Tonya. A crazy true story, perfectly timed for the forthcoming Winter Olympics. Trailer looks great, nominated for bucketloads of awards.

2. The Shape of Water. Seriously, what doesn't sound great about the words "A Guillermo Del Toro film about a socially awkward female janitor falling in love with and trying to rescue some kind of underwater alien"...

Oh, and if Frances McDormand doesn't win a best actress Oscar for 3 Billboards then it means someone somewhere has acted the shit out of something...

Can only echo what those have already said about 3 Billboards, just another brilliant film by Martin McDonagh.

If you liked In Bruges, you will love this film.

Went to see 3 Billboards last night, felt a bit let down at the end to be honest.

No doubt there are some fantastic acting performances and some interesting development of characters, people you start off rooting for turn out to be horrible people and the people you expect to hate come round to be more likeable personalities and all that jazz, but I thought the overall story failed to deliver in the same way, it was just lost in the interactions between the characters by the end and felt a bit like a film that didn't really go anywhere.

Still an enjoyable watch but just felt it lost a bit of direction.

I, Tonya is a great film, fucking mad life story, no wonder that wench became messed up with a mother like that.

Folks seem to be overlooking Caleb Landry in 3 Billboards, I thought his character was awesome everytime he was on screen and wanted more of him in the film.

It's a couple of years old but I watched Victoria over the weekend. German film (but mostly in English) about a Spanish woman in Berlin who gets caught up in bank robbery gone wrong. Really really good. Extremely tense. And all done in one shot with mostly improvised dialogue which was pretty amazing. Highly recommended

I watched 'I, Tonya' last night. Absolutely fantastic. I'd heard of her but couldn't remember much of the incident, but this is played out so well, really well acted. Funny, engaging and pretty tense, well worth a watch.
