The Film Thread

IT. What a let down. Was expecting it to be quite scary. More comical than scary.

Totally agree. I am a real King fan but this was really disappointing. Not scary at all - almost comic horror.
But the problem was that the film didn't address the main issues such as what causes this entity to appear every 27 years, and the issues surrounding the group (child abuse, dominant Mother, racism etc). Stand By Me did this so much better.

I felt very short-changed.

Me too HW,very disappointing. Wonderng if Part 2 will be any better, with them all as adults. Think it's due to come out next Spring. I'm reading the book again at the minute, book wins every time for me.

That book will never be adapted properly, it's just massive. So much happens in it and it's all critical to the story, it would all take a series of films to fit it all in. One of the best books I've ever read to be fair, I've read it three times and was completely immersed each time. Christine was the same, the characters are exceptionally well written.

I'll probably duck It now, the first one was a big enough let down so I'd rather avoid a second.

My third time of reading it too Boo, enjoying it for the third time just as much as I did the first.

Alien Covenant.

What a mess. Atrocious plot, frustratingly dumb characters, ropey alien CGI, rubbish plot twist, comedic deaths (that aren't supposed to be comedic).

Absolutely terrible film. No idea what Ridley Scott was thinking.

agree. the sort of shite that reflects badly on sci-fi. some great books out there that would make great films and we have to have bollocks like this.

The Black Room :icon_lol: This one goes in the stupid & weird category :icon_lol: .....although I think it's meant to go in horror. Not scary, nor sexy, just plain shite.

The Book Of Henry. My advice, don't bother seeing what's in Henry's book.

The movie IT..the original was better..too many computer effects as usual with remakes..you lose the soul and feeling of the movie..

I really enjoyed IT, not especially scary but the clown was creepy. I haven't read the book and I don't remember the original very well though so maybe that's why.

47 Meters Down. Utter garbage, shit acting, and at one point almost urging the oxygen to hurry up and run out.

Viceroy's House. Not usually into films like this but with Hugh Bonneville as Lord Mountbatten and Gillian Anderson playing his wife, and a bit of a love story amongst the servants, two thumbs up from me. 500 servants who all had to choose, India or Pakistan.

Blade Runner 2. Was apprehensive coming up to this after the debacle that was Prometheus. Very much in two minds about whether to see it.
It was fantastic. A true sequel, it recaptured the mood and tone of the original perfectly. The score in particular worked so well. And Ryan Gosling heads up a number of outstanding performances. Jared Leto... would have preferred the original casting of David Bowie that sadly wasn't to be, but infinitely better than Guy Pearce in Prometheus.

So the star wars trailer has been out for a day, and no-one has mentioned it?

Shhh, do you want to know a secret mate, I've never watched one since the original in the late 70's :)

I don't watch trailers if I know I'm going to see the film anyway.

A lot of my friends are envious, as I never got into star wars.
As a result, I've seen each star wars film for the first time on a big screen, whereas a lot saw empire/jedi on video.

Tonight, I shall be watching Zombiesaurus followed by The Beaster Bunny. I am absolutely confident that they will make Sharknado look like Schindler's List*.

*=Possibly copyright Paddy.

Blade Runner 2049 - utter toilet - a 150-minute journey of unadulterated crap.

Oh bugger. Guess where I'm going tonight!!
I thought the original was pap too though - however, my fiancée loved the original, and thought this one was tripe, so it might not just be hating sci-fi that coloured my judgement.
