The Film Thread

That was the worst film I saw last year. I posted about it a month or so ago - I so wanted it to be good but it's absolutely diabolical. 34% is probably 40% higher than I'd rate it.

Such a wasted opportunity to depict a fascinating yet tragic episode of WWII.

Totally agree Langers, truly awful film, and a wasted opportunity. Really disappointing.

Hacksaw Ridge is a great example of how to adapt an incredible true story from WWII into a movie.

Along with Warsaw 44, The Pianist, The Railway Man, Letters from Iwo Jima, Empire of the Sun, Schindler's List, etc. There has been some really great stuff done over the years.

Green Room. Excellent little thriller/horror about a hardcore band under a siege from a load of Nazi punks led by Captain Jean-Luc Picard. Really tense violent stuff.

The Lobster - bonkers film about a near-future where it's illegal to be single, and if you're single too long you get turned into an animal, literally. First half is hilarious, second half wears a bit thin but worth a watch if you're feeling adventurous.

I like the sound of Green Room! Might check that one out.

Agree with your verdict on The Lobster. On the whole I enjoyed it and reckon it's worth a watch. The ending makes up for the dip in the latter half of the film.

Have you seen the director's other film Dogtooth? Now that's a film if you're feeling adventurous!

Green Room was great. Properly nasty but doesn't go into shit torture porn territory.

No, I've not seen Dogtooth, but I've heard about it. Will have to find it.

Reading the stuff about war films above, the other film I want to see is Come & See, a Russian film by Elem Klimov about the Nazi occupation of Belorussia. It's supposed to be one of the best war films ever made. Doesn't sound like it's for the faint-hearted.

You definitely should. A real challenging watch about isolation and protection from the outside world and all it's mean and nasty influences. Very apt for 2017 really.

I saw green room at the cinema. It is really good, especially as sla says there's no torture porn stuff. Works better letting you use your imagination, like good horror films do.
Recommended.

Cool. Will defo check it out next time the missus has an early night.

You married someone who has no interest in watching Nazi punks murdering innocent musicians in hideously violent ways? I give your relationship another two years at most.

It should have been one of the first questions on date #1 tbh.

the band also do a pretty good version of the dks 'nazi punks fuck off' before the mayhem starts.

Inferno. Really enjoyed this one, but then I love all symbologist thriller type films.

Strange, I thought it was horrendous preachy tripe. Even Hanks looked bored during this one. But then I think Dan Brown is a shocking writer so what do I know.

Heard a lot of people who feel the same way as you about this one Johnny.Good job we don't all think the same way about stuff, Christ, we'd all be agreeing with thm!!!

I didn't know that Paddy, who did he rip off?

Seriously??

The clue is that Leah Teabing is an anagram of those he ripped off in the Da Vinci Code. There was a massive court case about it. Unbelievably Brown won, but god knows how.

Damn right PPB and that's a horrific thought about THM!!!
