The Film Thread

I know - floundering a bit here to describe what I feel about it.

What I am trying to say is that I am sure it is a brilliant film, but nothing about the plotline or subject matter would entice me to find out. However if others love it, fantastic I am glad they do.

I'm sure the Artist and La La Land are excellent Oscar winning films. I have no desire to watch either.

I do love Trainspotting and I'm a big fan of Danny Boyle in general.

I wasn't trying to persuade you or anyone else to watch it. Just saying that I enjoyed it.

How To Win An Oscar #2: Make a film that shows Hollywood and the film industry in a good light. (#1 being have an able-bodied actor play a disabled person heroically overcoming some challenge or other)

I thought The Artist was a load of bollocks.

I wasn't trying to be persuaded or to persuade others either! I think it is that I know that my view on the film would be a bit of an outlier and the fact that I have no willingness to see it to be convinced otherwise might make me look a bit curmodgeonly - hence "not a bad person".

I'd say Wes Anderson is my favourite director. I love literally every one of his films.

Have you seen Moonrise Kingdom?
Moonrise Kingdom was the Wes Anderson film too far for me. So stupid and ridiculous.

Oh and I liked The Artist.

And bloody love Trainspotting.

Trainspotting is in my top 10 films ever too. Went & saw it at the cinema under the influence of all sorts to get different experiences too...
The film reminds me of a remix of the actual book (so much more in the book, that so much needs editing out), and it can be difficult reading the book in the dialect to understand it.

I cannot wait for T2. I've read porno (so-so, apparently again John Hodge has used this as a template but not stuck too rigidly to it), and skagboys (brilliant, and hilarious, a really great read). I'm still waiting to receive the blade artist that someone got me as a gift for christmas...

It's not actually about trains or even Trainspotting just in case you thought it was a biopic about Quirk.

Anyway going to have to watch the original again before I go to see T2. Might make a night of it and get a takeaway and a few beers.

White Girl
:yikes::yikes::yikes::yikes:

Is that snorting coke off a cock scene real?
Worth a watch anyway if you like Larry Clark type stuff.

Have to question the category of film you are watching now :icon_biggrin:

Split. Had high hopes for this one but, despite a great performance from James McAvoy, was largely let down. Worth a watch on DVD but nowt more.

Trainspotting is fucking ace. I remember watching it on a dodgy video copy ages before it came out at the cinema (I think). Could be wrong, I was constantly wanging back in those days.

Trainspotting is brilliant and not exclusive to 30 year olds.

So the next Star Wars film is Star Wars: Episode VIII - The Last Jedi

Oooooooh.

The question is - is the word 'Jedi' singular or plural? And who does it refer to...?

Geeky awesomeness from just 3 words!

It will be singular, and it absolutely will not be Luke Skywalker. It is going to be either Rey or possibly a reformed and made good Kylo Ren as Ben Solo.

Ahhhh but will it...?

I reckon it's Rey and Luke. Luke's definitely in it a lot and he's definitely a Jedi so I think it's about his tutelage of Rey.

It's a better title than Attack of the Clones anyway.

Hacksaw Ridge.

Absolutely fantastic film. Best war film I've seen in years - a remarkable story beautifully told with a great performance from Andrew Garfield. Wouldn't be shocked to see it win some Oscars TBH.
Yeah. It wasn't bad was it? I would put it up there with The Railway Man.

I thought it was better than The Railway Man which whilst was still very good, left me ever so slightly disappointed as I'm a big fan of the original book.

I can't believe I just posted 'it's not as good as the book'. Ugh. I feel unclean!

USS Indianapolis.Based on harrowing true events and a truly awful, awful way to die for many of those men. Unfortunately, but deservingly, only got a 34% like from viewers. Probably due to Nick Cage's shit acting.

That was the worst film I saw last year. I posted about it a month or so ago - I so wanted it to be good but it's absolutely diabolical. 34% is probably 40% higher than I'd rate it.

Such a wasted opportunity to depict a fascinating yet tragic episode of WWII.

Edit - #3216 on this thread.
