The Film Thread

To be fair Phils compelling argument is starting to sway me :)

There is nothing wrong with a good musical, but lets not the popularity of musicals get in the way of narrow mindedness.

You can count the musicals I like on one hand. The classics like the wizard of Oz are ok, Sound of Music, Bedknobs and Broomsticks, the Lion King but any film trying to be an action movie where the characters burst into song like Bugsy or Oaklahoma are just gut wrenchingly bad. Cartoon musicals are more tolerable than live action generally.

Besides Julie Andrews was a fit un!

You could've been anything that you wanted to be...

Oliver! Is the best film musical ever, absolutely fantastic cast, score, (and story obviously).
The only other that I would have any time for is Mama Mia because the songs are so good.
Can't say I like any of the American film musicals TBH.

Agreed. Oliver was superb. And didn't Oliver Reed play his Bill Sykes character to perfection.

Chicago, now that was a pile of shite.

Yep, great cast; Ron Moody, brilliant, Harry Secombe, great.
'Who will buy?' Is my favourite song from that film, the cries of old London Town.
Such a great story though obviously.

Lets look at the plot

A dirty degenerate backed up by a ruffian with a Dog keeps a dozen under 13 boys whilst training them and encouraging them to thieve for him on a daily basis.

Sounds more like a football scandal in the making to me.

Finally watched David Brent: Life on the Road last night.

Gloriously cringeworthy and fucking funny. Absolutely loved it.

Oliver and Grease are wonderful. Paint Your Wagon for Wandering Star/Wanderers Scarf deserves to be on the list as well
