The Film Thread

I think leaving certain things left unknown adds a bit to it.

Just out of interest if you binge watched them recently, what did you think of the last series?

I thought it was excellent though I didn't like the scene when Lol 'confessed' over dinner. That wasn't well done IMO, but other than that I thought it was a strong series with plenty of powerful scenes/performances.

I like what they did with Combo's character.

I think I preferred it to '88.

Thats interesting, I thought it fell down a bit under its own expectation - nice to see another point of view who wasn't caught up in the hype at the time, it did have some realy powerful scenes - some very uncomfortable to watch.

Combo's story was class, its the real fabric of the series - the guy who everyone hated, then you see his vunerable side and redemtion...

where as Woody tailed of into an imitation of himself for me

Woody's plotline had been and gone in the previous series though - I think they wanted to focus on other characters. And any scene featuring his parents is very entertaining!

I'd agree that he wasn't as good as in other series but I think you could argue the same for Shaun who's been a bit of a peripheral character since the first film.

I suppose it means we've learned more about the others such as Milky, Lol, Kerry etc.

Went and saw Green Room last night.
Good film. Very much a hunter and hunted theme, but well done. A lot of the violence/threat is psychological, and/or implied.

Relating to the above, the ending leaves a question unanswered, similar in style to inception.

Carry On Doctors will be written by Susan Nickson and Tim Dawson - the duo behind BBC sitcom Two Pints of Lager and a Packet of Crisps.

Oh fuck.

DON'T. DO. IT.

Flogging a dead horse isn't it?

You cannot do Carry On without the key cast members. It just doesn't work. And this side of mass resurrections that looks mighty unlikely.

And those writers. Two Pints is about as funny as catching a bollock in your zip.

Carry on films worked for their time - they won't now (& without the originals will be pale imitations) - & thats without commenting on the writing team

I liked Two Pints...

Not that I think new Carry On films would ever work. I wasn't a fan of the originals anyway.

You can imagine David Walliams in them though.

You aren't exactly selling it to me there Bear.

Carry On are an anachronism. Of their time, for sure, but remaking (or "re-imagining") them is lazy, shite direction. They will be unbelievably shit. The idea should be strangled at birth.

I agree. Just thinking out loud that he is perfect for them.

Well - I could imagine him saying "oooh matron" in a camp voice, so I suppose there is something to work with...

Just seen the latest Ghostbusters trailer. I really want it to be good but it looks absolutely diabolical. Except the effects.

It looks absolutely atrocious, the "comedy" reminds me of the alleged jokes in Batman & Robin.

I haven't braved the second Ghostbusters trailer after suffering the first.

I've been waiting for this to come out for ages - years ago, I read a fascinating book about the sinking of the Indianapolis (link) and never understood why it hadn't been made into a film. Hopefully it'll be worth the wait.
