The Film Thread

Star Wars fans have no brains. All there interesting in is the light sabre and sound effects... Pew pew pew pew pew pew pew pew...

You're going home?

For the avoidance of doubt Star Wars >>>>>>> Star Trek.

Hell yeah.

I've grown up loving Star Wars - so obviously I'm going to be stupidly over-excited about the prospect of the first proper sequel for 32 years in my favourite film series of all time. Horrendous overkill and merchandising push at the mo which probably won't stop til Episode IX has been and gone (we're talking YEARS here) but I don't give a shit. It's Star Wars so it's allowed.

No - that is I. He also briefly appears in Episode II. Thankfully it is only briefly.

I watched Episode II last week and had forgotten just how bad the acting in it is. Natalie Portman is lovely in it though :)

I'd go with Paddy's order too.

She is - but she's one of the worst actors of the lot in that film! I can't fathom quite how they managed to pair her and Hayden Christiansen together - there's more chemistry between Deutsch and Matt Doherty.

Can't agree with III being better than VI though. Even though III is infinitely better than the other prequels.

I dunno, if I acted in a film with Matt Doherty we could have a good Nic Cage/John Travolta style vibe in Face/Off going. Although there'd have to be no chase scenes - would stretch the bounds of credibility too far to suggest I'd struggle to catch him.

VI has a lot going for it. The Jabba stuff is excellent and the final showdown with Luke, Vader and the Emperor is immense. Trouble is, I have no great love for the Ewoks. Not Jar-Jar levels of distaste but they just are not a great fit for me.

The ewoks aren't the best, which is why it'll always pale next to IV and V. But they're better than the daft scene in III with Obi Wan riding a gecko. And although he's not even close to being the worst thing about the prequels, Grievous isn't the best baddie in the world. And Christopher Lee is criminally underused! Not to say that I don't really like III as it's ace, but VI wins it fairly comfortably IMO.

Has anyone seen the holiday special? Downloaded it years ago but have never got around to watching it, even George Lucas refuses to make money from it so it must be bad!

Oh I agree that her acting is poor, she just looks pretty!

I'd have to watch III again to judge it properly against VI. I remembered II as being better than it actually is so maybe I've done the same with III. The one awful scene from III I always remember is when Darth Vader is told that Padme is dead. His noooooo reaction is so, so bad.

Oh god - the "Nooooooo!" moment is toe curlingly embarrassing.
