The Film Thread

I haven't seen this yet. Is it worth it? I want to see Tarrantino's new film the Hateful 8 when it comes out as it looks like a traditional western.

Absolutely worth a watch. Good story, great acting, some beautiful scenery of the West and a lot of black humour. Up there with Reservoir Dogs and Pulp Fiction for me

Yeah, agree on Django. Classic Tarantino. Samuel L Jackson is also brilliant as the vicious old Uncle Tom character.

The Hangover Part III

Absolutely appalling. I don't think I laughed once - a total mess of a film. Embarrassingly bad at times. Probably in the 10 worst films I've ever seen, and I quite enjoyed the first 2.

Don't get all the hate for View to a Kill. Great villain brilliantly played by Walken - his face whilst machine gunning his own men is a highlight of the entire series. The plot is surprisingly tight for a Bond film and you get Patrick Macnee. Brosnan was an excellent Bond but was let down by some clunky films.

Casino Royale
Goldeneye
A View to a Kill
On Her Majesty's Secret Service
The Man With the Golden Gun
The Spy Who Loved Me
Live and Let Die
From Russia With Love
Goldfinger
Diamonds are Forever
Dr No
Skyfall
Thunderball
The World is not Enough
The Living Daylights
Tomorrow Never Dies
Licence to Kill
You Only Live Twice
Quantum of Solace
Moonraker
Octopussy
For Your Eyes Only
Die Another Day

Walken is excellent in it. A View isn't a bad film at all. The problem is the Bond for me. Moore is beyond ancient and it just destroys the believability.

Walken is great, his glee when gunning down his men and his spare clips line are some of my favourite Bond moments. He also frequently puts Moore's decrepit Bond in his place. It is of course pretty much ruined by Moore being ancient and the awful acting of Grace Jones and in particular Tanya Roberts.

I didn't mind AVTAK. Moore's age aside - Walken was excellent and I enjoyed the finale a lot more than other Bond films.

Brosnan is probably my least favourite Bond. I loved Goldeneye and really did have high hopes, but every film got progressively worse and Die Another Day was the worst Bond by a country mile (yes, even worse than Moonraker).

From Russia With Love is my personal favourite. Fantastic story, some superb individual scenes (the fight between Bond & Grant on the train), Daniela Bianchi (Tatiana) was a beautiful Bond girl, Rosa Klebb was a great character - as was Kerim Bey who you really warm to.

I also have a soft spot for The Man With The Golden Gun as I thought Christopher Lee was superb (plus who could dislike a film with Maud Adams AND Britt Ekland in it at the same time?). Saying that, I appreciate there are more solid Bond films in terms of storyline out there.

Casino Royale was absolutely superb and although the other Craig films haven't hit the same heights (I'm off to watch Spectre this weekend so can't comment on that), they remain at a very believable and watchable level. Plus I love the Bond books and Craig's representation of the character is the closest to the books IMO.

I think Dalton is pretty close to the book's character as well, but I tend to agree.

Spectre really is ace - I'll be interested to hear what you think after you've seen it.

Dalton/Craig are definitely the closest.

I'll let you know my thoughts on Spectre. I've had to keep putting it off as I've got loads going on at the moment.

I was disappointed with Spectre to be honest.

I've just watched American Sniper. An excellent movie.

I don't get the hype with Bond in general. It may have been new and amazing at some point (or possibly not, I don't know), but the whole spy thing is just incredibly stale to me.

Maybe I just don't like the suave badass archetype, but Bond movies put me to sleep most of the time.

You're not British. Not liking Bond over here is fast becoming the equivalent of burning poppies or saying nasty things about the NHS or the BBC. The BBC effectively becomes the unpaid PR arm of the Bond franchise whenever there's a new one out. I enjoy the films but I hate all the hype that surrounds them now.

Control

Ian Curtic biopic - superbly atmospheric with some very strong performances. The guy who played Rob Gretton in particular was awesome. As was the lead. And of course the music in it is tremendous.

Just back from watching Spectre. No spoilers but if you're undecided about going - just do it, you won't regret it. Brilliantly shot and Ben Whishaw is superb.
