The F1 Thread

I've hardly seen a lap this year and I haven't missed it one bit. I've come to the conclusion that the only reasons I've continued to watch every race since it got boring (c. 1995, iirc) are habit and optimism. I've now broken the first and run out of the second. Unless F1 gets its act together, I can see it dying. Once everyone who can remember real racing from the likes of Villeneuve (Gilles), Prost, Lauda, Senna et al. has passed away, surely people will just look at these processions and think, Why? I find BTTC much more interesting these days.
Similarly I’ve watched races whenever I can going back forever. Watched the first 2 laps yesterday and thought I can’t be bothered - ended up watching the end of a shit football match and an old Inspector Morse.

Think I’ve broken the watching habit now and very much doubt I will go back.

If people are getting bored with F1 but still want to enjoy racing, then I'd recommend trying out IndyCar (still on Sky Sports F1), or IMSA (which streams live on its website, and releases full race re-runs on YouTube about three days later).

In IndyCar (which isn't just ovals...), any one of about 15 drivers could win any race; and IMSA, whilst technically endurance racing, has most races that are 2.5 hours long, but it's rare to know who is going to win any class before a couple of laps to go.

Oh, and it's 41 years since we lost Gilles today.

Yeah, I do quite like IndyCar. It can still be processional, but not always in the same order, as you say. Feels a bit second division sometimes, with people like Grosjean and Ericsson, but at least they overtake each other occasionally. I don't mind the ovals, myself. Barber's always very hairy ('scuse pun). The main pain is I don't have Sky, or 3 hours to spare on Sundays, so have to d/l from 'elsewhere', since YT doesn't have full reruns. Never heard of IMSA, but I'll check it out.

IMSA's basically the US version of WEC; and cars are generally the same for both. I can't find 6 hours at a time to follow WEC properly (other than Le Mans), but IMSA's shorter races fit into my available time much better.

Imola race for this weekend cancelled due to major flooding in the area.

After an unexpected weekend away, lets hope the F1 can find some excitement again....ah no, its in Monaco.

zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

Unlikely

Could do with an incident in Quali that fucks up the grid hugely.

If it’s not going to rain just get the hose pipes out. Only way to make it entertaining.

Much like they do the night races with streetlights, they should do the same here but put sprinklers on instead.

Make it cooking oil instead and make it REALLY interesting.

Actually do make it a night race at the least, will help us get to sleep on a Sunday evening.

The best Monaco bar Senna in the rain was when they had a fire in the hotel above the tunnel on race day and all the hosepipe water soaked the surface in the tunnel only, turning it into an ice rink

The 1982 race had an amazing few laps, where there were four or five different leaders, and about eight different drivers could have won but threw it away.

Eventually Patrese won despite beaching and stalling at Loews a couple of laps before the end.

It was pretty tedious before then though!

Ferrari trying to get Lewis for next season it seems

Can see that happening if the Merc doesn't improve massively over the next couple of months

Ferrari would make him easily the highest paid on the grid and he would presumably replace Sainz. I can’t imagine Leclerc liking that very much though.
