The F1 Thread

I don't know, the replay did put Carlos at quite a large portion of blame. I don't think Max was out of place either, plus they slightly relaxed that rule after the first two races I believe

After Abu Dhabi, they discussed the option of putting lap of fuel into cars and adding an extra lap with a late red flag to ensure the race finishes as a race. Can't help but think that might have been nice today. Either way, despite the end it's been a pretty entertaining race

OK Max was closer than I realised to being outside the grid box; I'd consider that out but Crofty says not if the wheels touch the white line

As pissed off as I was at the time, that's a very harsh penalty for Carlos.

Max was out of his grid position at the restart too.
I think you're wrong on both counts. First corner or not, Sainz comes over and wipes out the back of Alonso. 100% his fault and deserves the penalty as he alone cause the incident.

And Max had his tyres on the line, which is fine.

Race Weekend in Baku will be a bit different

Friday; Practice Session and Quali for Main Race
Saturday: Quali for Sprint Race and the Sprint Race
Sunday: Main Race

So the sprint effectively becomes only about points and the big issue (the huge jeopardy of a prang utterly wrecking the GP starting position meaning nobody dares overtake much) should be eliminated. Might make the sprint more watchable. The only decent one I can remember is Hamilton coming through the field in Brazil.

Teams aren't happy about the Sprint Race being in Baku though. Event already one of the expensive ones with regards to car damage so popping in an extra chance of destruction when all on tight budgets not gone down well.

Crash in Baku tends to be expensive and the circuit could burn through engines

Ferrari looking good today. Different format today. 1 practice session this morning and straight into Quali for Sunday now. Tomorrow is sprint race quali and the sprint race

First lap in Q3 and Max and Charles get identical times but Max gets 1st as he did it first

Merc looking shite. Russell will start in 11th but Lewis looking a bit stronger in Q3

2nd laps in Q3 and Charles edges out Max for Pole

1) Leclerc
2) Max
3) Perez
4) Sainz
5) Lewis
6) Alonso

Lewis has done well to drag the Merc up to 5th. Looked like a dog of a car in Q1 and 2

Baku normally has loads of action...not today.

Dull, dull, dull.

Highlight is Max losing the race as he pitted about 30 seconds before a safety car.

Down the grid not much happened as over taking seemed almost impossible unless a mistake was made. Hamilton one of the few to make moves as he lost 5th place, as like Max he pitted before a safety car and found himself in 12th. Got back up to 6th and spent a lot of time being less than a second behind Sainz, buy couldn't make that move.

Ocon did almost take out a host of photographers as he made his only pit stop with 1 lap to go and the dozy fuckers we were all gathered in the pit entry.

I didn't like the new sprint format either. A quali session on Friday, followed by another almost identical quali session on Saturday. Yawn.

Can't they just use the GP quali places to decide the Sprint order somehow? Like invert places 1-6, then 7-13 and lastly 14-20? That way you'd have three blocks of quicker cars behind slower cars all throughout the field and pretty much every one would be attacking those in front.

Boring as buggery and on a go cart track.
No atmosphere from the drivers or the crowd.

Feeder series reversing the top 8 works pretty well, that's what I'd do. Or BTCC used to (or still does?) uses both a ballast system to weight down quicker cars in the championship, and does a random number system to reversing one of the race grids to stop people gaming the system. (Now I wouldn't do the ballast approach but we need ideas on the table)

Bit of a freak result in P1. Merc 1-2. George leading Lewis.

Impressive from George as he missed a large chunk of the session have work done on his car.
