The F1 Thread

Yup.

Vettel kissed ass and won them over. I'm sure his public apology will be from the heart and not from the brains of the apprentice in the Ferrari PR team.

If he'd been apologetic after the race they wouldn't have pushed for any more punishment, I still feel like they should have disqualified him

He knew not to apologise after the race, that would put him under the review of the stewards for that race who would've then had grounds to disqualify him.

Hopefully Bottas can get himself above Seb on the grid then to help Lewis out

Quiet in here..great drive by Bottas but was the start legit..? He had blisters like many others in the end and still managed to win..good drive from Vettel and Ricciardo, both very good drivers..Hamilton did all he could really with the pen on super soft tyres..exciting race..like the pace of Perez too..

Just inside the accepted reaction time apparently. Thought he had jumped the start when it happened.

Race was a bit dull until the last 3 laps

The data showed he didn't jump it but I'm not sure if it's accurate as it certainly looked too close to be a 'reaction' from the footage and more of a perfect anticipation.

Yeah, same as in athletics

think reaction time in athletics is 0.2s and bottas was 0.201, so techniclly legal but impossible. particularly when a car is harder to start than a human moving out the blocks

It seemed even quicker than that though, literally the same frame of footage the lights went out and the car moved. I'm glad he didn't get a penalty anyway, stopped Vettel winning

Exactly. Vettel is an arse who shouldn't of even been racing today after his shenanigans in the last race. Absolute dick

Apparently the FIA said he did move before the lights went out, but drivers are allowed a small movement for purposes of adjusting their clutch. He didn't exceed the allowed movement so he is fine, and just nailed his response time.

The 2019 British Grand Prix will be the last one at Silverstone. I wonder where that leaves the future of the British Grand Prix?

*If* no new contract is negotiated, I think we might see a street circuit, probably in London. More likely that Silverstone will get a better deal sorted, though.

They are taking a gamble. The contract they signed with Bernie was a stupid one. They are hoping Liberty will be nice and massively reduce the cost. They had already offered to cover the next 5 years but after that the hosting fee would be at £27m which they cannot afford.

I think the offer from Liberty would have meant the BRDC got no actual income from the race for those five years. So fine, you don't have to pay to host it, but you don't earn from it either.

Liberty seem to be a lot more receptive to preserving the history of the sport and not just shovelling races off to whoever offers the most money so I'm hopeful something will get sorted, it's over two years still until it becomes a critical issue.

Sounds like the Sauber - Honda deal is off after the departure of Kaltenborn.

Bad news for Honda.
