The F1 Thread

That would be a fantastic move for wehrlein if it happened, I guess it would make sense from a mercedes point of view. Renault are interesting, I'm expecting them to drop Palmer but he has performed very well in the last 2 races, he must be decent if he won gp2 but he's not looked particularly good this year

Aye, from what they were saying in commentary it's more of an aero focused change which you would imagine puts Red Bull in the driving seat. Doesn't particularly help us if they and Mercedes just swap places though!

I do like that there is serious competition between the drivers in nearly all the teams, there aren't really number 1 and 2 drivers. Kimi has stepped his game up against Vettel, Verstappen is super quick and is more than a match for Ricciardo and obviously Rosberg and Hamilton are close. I also like Perez and Hulkenburg at Force India, it would be nice if they were able to fight for wins in the future.

I have often wondered what would happen if for one race the drivers of the top teams had to race in the cars of the lower ranked teams. Would the likes of Hamilton and Rosberg still be able to get anywhere near winning? I know it wil never happen, but it would be interesting...

They wouldn't win if you plonked them in a Manor or Sauber. They would probably get more out of the car than their current drivers.

When Alonso was with Ferrari they had a reliable but generally crap car (compared to the front runner) and he always seem to drag performance out of it that no one else could.

That is how I was thinking. Yes they have the best cars, but they are in them because they are among the best drivers around. They may well get a Sauber into the points, reliability allowing of course.

Ditto Schumacher in his first couple of years at Ferrari, that was a dog of a car that had no right to be competing at the front but he pulled it out.

Alonso and Button have got some respectable results for McLaren over the last two seasons that the likes of Ericsson/Maldonado/insert crappy paydriver of your choice wouldn't get near.

Same with Alonso at Minardi who impressed a lot in that car.

Plus Vettel got a win while at Torro Rosso, though that was a wet quali/race and he did start on pole.

That Toro Rosso was pretty special though. If he hadn't have had an engine penalty, it's quite possible that Sebastian Bourdais would have won that race instead.

I think so. Vettel and Alonso are the comparators and they are both a little older.

Nico Hulkenberg to Renault confirmed. Nice salary of £17m on a 2 year deal.

He's a good driver, hope they give him a decent car. I'd like to see Wehrlein at Force India to see how good he is in a capable car

I think he needed to make that gamble. Force India are highly unlikely to break beyond their current performance level and whilst Renault are poor at the moment, they've taken advantage of reg changes before. Looking forward to seeing how they get on.

Aye. Higher ceiling with Renault than Force India will ever have, being a customer team. Worth a gamble.

Talk that Ron Dennis is under threat at McLaren (good, his thinking is a good 20 years outdated) and Ross Brawn is in the frame to replace him.

Austin is an AMAZING layout. Absolutely love it.

I see the F1 bosses have passed the anti-Max law and moving under braking is now illegal. Could make the race interesting.
