The F1 Thread

Alonso at least challenged Vettel in two of those four seasons. Granted there was little on track action between teams, but it did make the title race more interesting.

Kimi challenged Schumi in 03 (I think) too. The 2002 and 2004 Ferrari's were just ridiculous though.

They were amazing cars. The class of the field comes out. Ideally, it would be stunning if the Mercs and the Ferraris and the Red Bulls were perfectly matched, but it won't happen.

If you want everyone having the same chassis and engine watch the American stuff, I guess.

Touring Cars bore me. Might as well watch Banger racing.

That's fine - we don't all like the same thing

And banger racing is a good night out anyway (Gt Yarmouth on a wet night with cars going every which way is great fun)- F1, someone gets pole position, starts well and there is no real opportunity to overtake - really not my scene.

Bad start from Hamilton sees him go from 1st to 6th

Between him and Rosberg they seem to have their fair share of bad starts. Do we notice them more as they are in the spotlight or are Vettel and co just as regularly having bad starts.

Its the start procedure on the Merc. For some reason, both drivers have issues with the Double Clutch start. 1st stage was fine for Hamilton today but he fucked up the 2nd. Threw that race away today

Needs to ensure he doesn't do the same in Singapore as a poor start there ruins the race completely. Go down to 5th or 6th and forget about the race.

Hamiltons in danger of losing the championship because he can't bloody start which is ridiculous

Some races he is fine and Nico messes up. It would suggest that Merc need to look at set up for the starts.

Been like that since race 1 though and nothing has changed, I assume they can't actually tell what the problem is

Most of the time it is driver error, like today. I think Hamilton had 2 starts at the beginning that were due to the car rather than him and that got sorted. There are 2 stages of the start and they seem to some weeks get the 2nd part right and then others they get it wrong (Rosberg has got it right twice in a row, so he is due an error next time out) and looks like they are driving through treacle.

Apparently the start system is different to that of the Ferarri and they seem to start well every race (think Kimi has had 1 issue due to a technical issue with the clutch)

Deal done to flog the sport. And Bernie appears to have a great black eye. Hope they are connected...

Sadly not. Staying on for 3 years (or they have asked him to do that).

Nice earnings of £400m for Bernie from the sale...so a bit extra to get off charges in a German court.

I hope they expand into the handheld and virtual reality areas.

Imagine sticking your virtual reality headset on and driving the pole lap from the driver's perspective.

P1 in Singapore done

Timing would indicate a good battle between Mercs, Ferrari & Red Bull. Max and Ricciardo top the times, Vettel 3rd and then Lewis and Nico. The top 3 did their times on the Ultra Soft tyres and the Mercs on the soft.

A few drivers were clipping some of the walls, Nico decided to hit one head on.

Red Bull are usually very good in Singapore, hopefully a close race this weekend but overtaking is pretty difficult if I remember rightly so it might not be very exciting regardless.

Pretty much like Monaco. Max did a fair bit of overtaking there last year though.

It should be closer than last year when the Merc was over a second off the pace that Vettel set (and then Hamilton's car knackered up anyway). Should be a good 5 or 6 way battle in Qualifying and certainly not a track for your start to be messed up.

Hydraulics problem ends Hamilton in P2.

Max moaning over the radio about the traffic, to which his engineer replies with "It's a street circuit mate, deal with it"

how is Lewis' car always break down? is it his driving style or just bad luck all the time?
