The Ferrari driven by Vettel was superb. Helped by being in the lead a little bit as the Singapore track ain't the best for overtaking (unless you are a fearless 17 year old of course)
Mercs just couldn't get the tyres working on their cars which took away their speed advantage and then some. Lewis was actually doing ok and may have been on for a Podium finish (although the 2nd safety might have ended that chance) but his throttle went kapput. He could have carried on but if you are being done for speed by the Manor Marussia team, well then you retire and look after your engine for the next race. I would very surprised if the Mercs struggle for pace against the Ferrari and Red Bull in Japan next week.
Mad scenes with the guy just strolling down the track to take a video as well.
Pretty pointless practice sessions this morning due to heavy rain. Not a lot of times put in and certainly not what you would class as competitive times. P2 finished with Kyvat just ahead of Nico & Lewis.
Ferrari's were a couple of seconds off the pace but as Lewis said, the 2 sessions mean "diddly squat". Dry weather set for the rest of the weekend though.
Rosberg takes pole from Lewis by a gnats wing (Rosberg 1:32.584 & Lewis 1:32.660). No chance to put a 2nd lap in though in Q3 as Kyvat has a car destroying meeting with the grass and barriers which ends the session.
Lewis made a couple of errors in his lap, so indicates he has the speed again.
Bottas in 3rd and Vettel in 4th. Basically normal service resumed after Singapore for the Mercs
I think both drivers accepted where McLaren were at the start with a promise of improvement. That hasn't happened. Alonso's contract is meant to be a very secure one and with no drive available in a competitive team he has 2 choices. Carry on or retire.
After Singapore it answers all the questions. Dominant from Lewis. Not so easy for Nico though, Pit Stop strategy paid off for him to move from 4th to 2nd. Any battle with Vettel at the end ws removed by the mass of traffic. 5 to go, think Lewis can now afford to finish 2nd behind Nico in all of them and win the title.
Really looking forward to seeing Max V in a couple of seasons. Once he has matured a little into the racing and he will be a Champion.
I was up early this morning so found myself watching, it's a weird sport, probably the only sport where most of the time the most excitement is had by watching the also rans.
Red Bull ask Merc for engines. Lauder speaks with Red Bull owner, as he feels he dislikes the Merc team. They basically agree to supply engines but need confirmation by a certain date which Red Bull ignore.
Merc now set to give Manor engines for next season. Red Bull's left hoping they can do a deal with Ferrari or they are getting their toys and throwing them out of their pram.
