Whilst tyres shouldn't just go, maybe he should look at 2 things - 1) Why did Ferrari decide to gamble on a one stop when the Pirelli advised ahead of the weekend that 2 changes would get the best out of the tyres and 2) Going over every kerb might not have helped the tyre.

Ex-F1 driver Justin Wilson has been in a horrible accident in the Indycar, debris (looked like a nose cone) hit him square on the helmet from another car that crashed nearby.
