Routine pole for Hamilton but Rosberg out qualified by both Ferraris.
Rosberg is using an old engine so has less power than Lewis.

Oddly Hamilton looking very subdued after getting pole. They thought they would be further ahead of the Ferrari's and I wonder if he has a concern on reliability with the new engine set up after Nico had to bin his. Or he felt he drove a shit lap and he is annoyed with it.

His body language was very downbeat wasn't it.

I will take his comment "My Spa lap was better" as a "I was shit out there and got lucky today" rather than any other concerns.

A good start and he wins tomorrow. If he goes down the grid on the start, as long as he doesn't go all Hungrystyle, he will have enough to go back.

Engine debacle after engine debacle weekend after weekend.

Pathetic for a top level sport.

Starting grid for today:

1 Lewis Hamilton
2 Kimi Raikkonen
3 Sebastian Vettel
4 Nico Rosberg
5 Felipe Massa
6 Valtteri Bottas
7 Sergio Perez
8 Romain Grosjean
9 Nico Hulkenberg
10 Pastor Maldonado
11 Felipe Nasr
12 Marcus Ericsson
13 Will Stevens
14 Roberto Merhi
15 Jenson Button
16 Fernando Alonso
17 Carlos Sainz
18 Daniil Kvyat
19 Daniel Ricciardo
20 Max Verstappen

With all the penalties the two Manors start 13th and 14th. Verstappen will also have to serve a drive-through at the start for his engine cover mishap.

It's utterly pathetic.
It'll only get more ridiculous as the season draws to the end too. I agree with Damon Hill, it needs to be loss of constructors points not grid positions for engine/gearbox penalties. Only driver penalties should remain as grid positions.

So Lewis wins by 25 seconds from Seb and Massa

Rosbergs engine blew up with 3 laps to go when in 3rd.

But...Mercs summoned to the Stewards over the tyre pressure on Lewis's car. Mucho confusion but his win is in doubt. To cover themselves a little, in case of a time penalty they had Lewis putting in hot laps at the end without telling him why.

Ferrari rumoured to have been called in as well.

Edit: looks like that is bollocks. Looks like it is just over both Mercs.

He was ahead at the end by 25.042, so if the stewards apply a 25s penalty he'll keep the win.

It was the left rear 0.3 psi too low according to the technical statement. Can't see them disqualifying him if it was just on one set though and not the entire race with both sets.

The Merc guys are baffled as the tyre pressures were set before the race with a Pirelli engineer approving them.

Apparently Nico tyres(s) were massively under so this could make Mercedes look worse and obviously this may mean Lewis is punished harder as it looks more than an honest mistake. Obviously with Nico retiring it won't matter to him.

Hamilton 0.3
Nico 1.2
Both on the rear left tyre

Only Mercs and Ferraris were tested before the start as they didnt have time to do the rest of the grid

1.1 for Nico.

James Allen just tweeted:

From @FIA regs looks like max time penalty post race is 30secs (for what would have been a Stop/Go pen in race) HAM had 25sec win margin

Eddie Jordan (yeah, I know) seems to think VW are buying Red Bull. No VW engines until 2018 though, it'll be Ferrari power for 2016 and 2017.

He was right about Hamilton joining Mercedes and there have been rumours about Audi joining F1 for ages.

I love Audi in sportscars but a Bugatti F1 team would be all kinds of swazzz.

Bugatti would be awesome, but Skoda would be better.

Looking unlikely for Mercedes on pole today. They seem way off the pace. Could even be third row at this rate.

I didn't see the qualifying. What on earth happened. Vettel on pole. Mercedes on third row.

Just nowhere near quick enough for some reason. Ferrari have had a big engine upgrade.
