The Euro 2024 Thread

Thought TAA was poor whole game, Foden, Kane and Saka completely anonymous second half.
Thought we played at a really lethargic pace right from the start, eventually Serbia worked out if they put pressure on us we'd struggle.
Still, a win first game is always good.

Southgate has won 4 out of 4 openers

Before that we failed to win in 1986, 1988, 1990, 1992, 1996, 2000, 2002, 2004, 2010, 2012, 2014 and 2016

Won the game, very poor second half.
Should’ve been 2-0 by half time.
Doesn’t really matter now 1 point gets us through another win probably wins the group.
Said it pre tournament sometimes you’ve got to shithouse a game 1-0

I think sometimes listening to the commentary team panic has an effect. We were the better team and deserved to win the game, they were much better 2nd half and the frustration comes because with the players we have we can be much better than that showing. I never really thought they were going to score though.

Kane was excellent in the last 15 minutes, holding the ball and buying fouls. Exactly what we needed.
I’d have changed the left hand side when Saka went off, Eze or Gordon would have added balance. The midfield changes were fine.

Probably the toughest group game done.
Safegate can’t get the best out of Foden im afraid always looks a bit meh for England.

We won a free kick with a few minutes to go, took it quickly and lost the ball. I find that really bizarre.
What the hell are they thinking?
Thankfully it didn't cost us and we got the result.
Madness though.

He was utter shite until the last 10 mins and then he started to put himself around a bit more as we tried to close the game down. It didn't help that he didn't have much support or little intent on getting a second to seal the game.

Did it twice. The second one was some nonsense from Rice when he tried to find Bowen out wide when he had a much simpler option to his left.

He's better on the right. Could have swapped him over when Saka went off and replaced him on the left ideally with Eze or possibly Gallagher.

Is it the style of football city play do you think, as England don’t play like that?

Sounds inconceivable to either think about not starting someone who’s that good. But it’s all abit de ja vu with getting your best players in the 11 isn’t it

It wasn’t pretty and I thought we should have carried more of a threat on the counter attack but I thought he generally made the right subs and Serbia never actually looked like scoring.

Will have to play better than that obviously against better opposition. Midfield set up is the key problem to solve I think, and hopefully Shaw is fit for when we need him.
Gallagher did ok but Southgate didn't react to Tadic coming on and dropping the defence far too deep allowed him (Tadic) far too much space.

He left Kane and Foden on far too long and didn't ask Serbia any questions in the second half.

Watkins/ Toney for Kane and Eze/ Gordon for Foden along with Wharton in midfield would've been a better balance imo, although Gallagher did ok.

Not dealing with Tadic was a problem though.

But a win is a win.

Is it worth a try of Bellingham alongside rice with Eze/Gordon Foden Saka in front?
Then you’re stifling Bellingham though.

Was listening to a bloke tell me earlier he must start with palmer, foden, Bellingham and Saka. Interesting balance to that team 🤔

Tell him he shares an opinion with Eni Aluko

Love Tadic, proper premier league relic.

On the whole the subs weren’t an issue. Gallagher made a difference, won free kicks etc. Bowen direct and created Kane chance. It’s just he takes so bloody long to make them and is still always reactive rather than proactive

He's just been voted the best player in the PL, yet for England his first touch is always safe and backwards. Why is that?
