The Definitive TWF Wolves XI Thread (2019 version) - 1970 - present

Any love for Brian law? Aside from his bus stealing shenanigans I thought he was decent but my memory is sketchy

Given he had to pay back his insurance money for us to sign him, Law was decent, slow but solid enough. Not someone I'd consider to be in the discussion for this list though

Willy Boly
Dean Richards
Joleon Lescott
Keith Curle
Craddock
Bennett

Pleased to see all the Bennett love. Very nearly placed him above Dean Richards.

Munro
Richards
Lescott
Boly

Pollet
Curle

Included the last 2 just to make up the numbers - the top 4 were far ahead of everyone else.

Would have loved to see Frank in the middle of a back 3, I feel he would have brought more to the role than Coady does.

Boly
Lescott
Richards
Curle
Coady (as part of a 3)
Bennet

Honorable shout outs to-
Mountfield good in his day.
Westley - a proper mentalist.
Madden - remember the ball having gone over his head about 30 yards out from goal and out for a goal kick before he managed to turn around, it was like watching some one run slower than I can walk.
Gary Breen - did a job in a paper thin squad.
Berra - wrestling champion.

The fact that 3 of our current CH's now make my all time best list shows some of the dirge I have witnessed over the years, Venus was always a Left back in my mind, filled in at CH, but his preferred position was the Bull in Codsall

ps no Pollet (wasn't around) DeWolf (never really got the love in)

Lescott
Boly
Richards
Coady
Pollet
Curle

I really wanted to put De Wolf in but I loved Pollet more and Curle was a better player. Plus, the Graham Taylor era was around the time I got distracted by girls and music so I don't trust that he was actually as good as my memory suggests. He was cool as fuck though.

Given the age profile on here then the players from the 70's are not going to get in (& even though I was there then if we are going 3 - 5 - 2 then can only probably include 3 from then in my choices), but if people had seen Frank Munro in his pomp then he would have been in anyone's top 3 - he was that good.

Tended to play as the left CH in a back four, but was a good enough player to have covered anywhere across that back line. Would have been a really significant upgrade on Bennett last season (& probably better than the other 2 as well)

100% agree !

1. Frank Munro
2. Willy Boly
3. Conor Coady
4. Joleon Lescott
5. Ryan Bennett
6. Jody Craddock

Willy Boly 172
Joleon Lescott 172
Conor Coady 124

Dean Richards 69
Keith Curle 49
Frank Munro 43
Ludo Pollet 32
Jody Craddock 31
Ryan Bennett 30
John de Wolf 12
Christophe Berra 6
Paul Butler 5
Emlyn Hughes 4
David Woodfield 3
Mark Venus 1
Ally Robertson 1
Richard Stearman 1

The system throws up weird stuff sometimes. Like who would seriously want peak Jody Craddock (whenever you judge that to be) over current day Ryan Bennett? And yet he's pipped him in the mid-table votes. Ah well. I'm sure Benno will get over it.

On to our RWB slot. Now, we obviously haven't played wingbacks *that* often, so I'm going to have to allow some leeway here. You can have a dedicated RWB there, or a RB, no problem at all. Arguably Doc plays more or less as a midfielder for us in most games and it might be the only way you can squeeze in say, Kightly in this shape...so long as there's logic to your selection I'll allow it. Just don't try ramming Robbie Keane there or anything.
