The Definitive TWF Wolves XI Thread (1970 - present)

I think I saw him once, may even have been his debut. Brilliant player.

Muscat
Foley
Ricketts

Remember Ryan Green's debut, he looked different class. Didn't he make his Wales debut at a really young age too (possibly younger than Giggs?) - such a waste of a talent

Dariusz Kubicki has got this sewn up I reckon. In the interests of fairness I'll vote for three others

Ricketts
Foley
Smith

Muscat was good until he started believing his own reputation, so plumped for Smith, Foley was exceptional in 08/09 and to win POTY ahead of more visible players such as Kites, SEB et al is a testament. Ricketts played well for us but came in and perfectly understood what he needed to do as captain to rebuild burnt bridges.

Geoff Palmer
Kevin Foley
Dominic Iorfa

Murray
Stowell
Kendall (simply because of his talks to the fans during a game. Making plans for the evening before stopping mid sentence to make a wonder save/flap at a cross then resume conversation like nothing had happened)

Can you imagine what he was like to work with post football? Larger than life, effervescent, and could lift the darkest mood. Sorely missed. If I had the chance, I missed the date to vote for a keeper i would have gone Murray Pierce Kendall.. Pierce gets a vote for that final 1974 and for keeping Phil Parkes out then being ever present in our promotion season

Muscat
Foley - he'd be top if he'd left straight after promotion or hadn't been shoved into right midfield
Thommo - makes my top 3 at both right and left back

Muscat
Foley
Smith

Would have loved to have picked Dom but he needs to stop going backwards.

Palmer
Muscat
Foley

Muscat was excellent especially early on, later he started believing the 'hard man' hype and played up to it too much....didn't we et Freedman also as part of the Smith deal....good business

Foley
Smith - really impressive player sold for the player below and possibly one of the worst strikers I've seen at Wolves.
Muscat

A lot of you youngsters will see some names cropping up from us old timers, names you won't really know, but there is a reason we hold players from the '70's in such high esteem.
From 1970 to about 1981 Wolves had a squad of players that grew old together but gave the fans a very decent amount to cheer about. In that time these were the "achievements" of that team...
1970; Texaco Cup Winners (An Anglo/Scottish/Irish competition)
1972; UEFA Cup Runners Up (Europa League to you kids)
1974 & 1980; League Cup Winners. Underdogs in both finals they beat an extremely talented Man City in '74 and Europeans Champions Nottm Forest in 1980
3 FA Cup Semi Finals in 1973, 1979 and 1981
4 Top 9 finishes in ten years 1970 to 1980 spoilt by one relegation in 1975/76 season. However the team stayed together and in Wolves Centenary year in 1977, won the 2nd Division.

So please forgive our misty eyes but these players were playing in the top flight for all but one season during this time and expect to see names like Palmer, Parkin, Munro, Bailey, Hibbitt, Wagstaff, Dougan and Richards
