The Definitive TWF Wolves XI Thread (1970 - present)

To be fair I can't really remember anything of Bull or Keane playing for Wolves. I mean I remember them being at Wolves but I couldn't tell you a single thing I ever saw either of them do in a game.

The team that got promotion under Jones is the first I can really remember.

In my eyes you can only vote for players that you've seen in the flesh.

I know. Frankie I was jesting dude.

Well that limits me just to the players of the 70s.

Since then its been restricted to what UK football coverage has been available in Australia, which to be honest has been very good over the years (can't say I saw much of Wolves in the mid 80s).

Coverage of the Championship is now very extensive on the main pay TV provider - 3-4 live games per week plus highlights. But as Wolves have been sh!te too watch I often haven't bothered to watch them live. Whereas when they were in the Premier League I'd ensure I watch every game (around 2am most Sunday mornings).

Sorry for the delay in getting these results up.

Bakary Sako - 72
Matt Jarvis - 62
Dave Wagstaffe - 30
Robbie Dennison - 18
Mark Kennedy - 16
Steve Froggatt - 11
Steve Kindon - 1

Wagstaffe got as many first place votes as Jarvis and only two fewer than Sako...but nothing at all in second or third place so ends up lagging way behind.

Moving on to central midfield, six picks, two go through. I'll leave it up to you whether you want to pick a pairing as one and two that would actually work.

I know it's an age thing, but Hibbett and Bailey would walk into most PL teams IMO

No place for Huddlestone or Marsden as they didn't complete half a season between them but they along with Burke are the best technical players I've seen at Molineux.

Jones for that goal
Karl the crab Henry

Using my leeway a bit but I remember all of them. Not sure why Karl is so high in anyone's but it's all personal choice of course - I almost put Gued in

For a spell Henry was a vital part of our midfield. The issue was he became stale at the club and was classed as part of the group that didn't give a shit at the end of the double relegation. Easy to forget what he added and for how little he cost as well.

Mike Bailey
Danny Hegan
Jim McCalliog
Kenny Hibbit
Willie Carr
Peter Daniel

Mike Bailey was not just a very good midfielder but he was an exceptional captain. Danny Hegan was the "Gentleman Jim Baxter" of his age. He would have been world-class with today's fitness regime. Jim McCalliog was pretty skilful and had drive but committed a lot of fouls. Kenny Hibbitt was a great attacking midfielder but not the strongest defensively. Willie Carr was tricky and worked hard (for his time). Peter Daniel a strong but not unskilled defensive midfielder.

Yeah he did all the dirty work for us.

He was actually a decent footballer as well. His performance in the home game v Forest (won 5-1) was brilliant
