The Definitive TWF Wolves XI Thread (1970 - present)

Their loss

In ten years people won't have seen Bully. He was great. Andy Gray was also great at a higher level for a shorter period. Time distorts memories. Gray incredibly probably that a better all round game than Bully. As did Dougan. The results are really unlikely to reflect that though. But we were there.........

I didn't get to see Bully!

I guess the difference between you and I who didn't see Wagstaffe is there are numerous videos and YouTube clips to inform your opinion and allow you to vote for him should you wish to do so.

Of the players I got 16/20

Obviously some young punk who never saw Waggy play (in the top tier) and reminisces about our current golden years in the 2nd tier.

Just giving their opinion, I'm old and a Waggy fan but knew at the start that the winner was gunna be Sako or Jarvis

Tell tale sign that we were going bust at the end of that season

I disgracefully bought one of those Andy Gray necklaces on holiday

I think that I'll be up on the same charge as you. B*****d thing kept breaking open and the beads went everywhere.

JR was my favourite player too, though i was only watching from '74 onwards initially only tv highlights. best finisher for us in my time and he never lost that. even by 79-80 past his best he had a great partnership with Gray. scored some brilliant goals that year. my favourite past clemence to beat liverpool.

there's no doubt Bully would have succeeded at the highest level though, and he would have been far better protected. some of the games teams were just terrified of him and couldn't cope. you got a buzz whenever the ball went to him anywhere near the box. he was pure energy and the main man. maybe it's the context of what happened to us but when you've experienced that 4 year shambles with everybody taking the piss and then starting to pity you, then you know there's really only going to be one choice.

Remember going to a pre-season game v Liverpool, and Keane came on for the 2nd half as an 18/19yo I think. You could see the entire stadium stand up when the ball went near him, and though we were championship crap, you could see Liverpool were scared of him. Ludicrous, as he seemed to be playing them by himself.

The forward section is gonna cause some debate for sure...

I don't quite remember king john, only the fondness some fans had for him.

On the NB/cowshed, I recall going to a game shortly after the John Ireland stand opened. The south bank was pretty full. The John |Ireland stand was deserted. For some reason part way through the game a square of police formed in the closed North Bank, and all of a sudden a small group of fans were allowed to stand in that square of police. The SB were chanting "we're back in the north bank" as we were dire on the pitch.

For some reason I always thought it was v Gillingham, but I seem to recall being corrected on that on here.
