The Cricket Thread

It's a patchwork team, no proper captain, Lawrence opening, very inexperienced attack bar Woakes

But we've not applied ourselves well in this game and it shouldn't be written off
We've picked a bowling line up (Woakes aside) for Sydney in December, not London in September. I'm not going to go too far down the Bazball road again because Boycott blah, blah, but in this series we have largely married the desire to be aggressive with being sensible. Not in this Test though and the way both openers got out just isn't acceptable and shouldn't be indulged

Well played Sri Lanka. Superb performance to come back and win that game.
Hopefully a lesson learned for England. There is reckless and there is reckless.

Tbf apart from the openers they weren’t stupid shots yesterday really, just good bowling and some poor batting.

Fair play to Sri Lanka, they've battled hard all series and took advantage of the opening we handed them in the first innings. 261/3 and we were well in command...and then we weren't.

Confirmed XI for tomorrow:

Salt
Jacks
Cox
Livingstone
Bethell
Curran
Overton
Archer
Rashid
Mahmood
Topley

What the hell Overton is doing there as a specialist batsman lurking at 7 (presumably, as he hasn't been bowling at all), who knows.

Test squad for Pakistan:

Crawley
Duckett
Pope
Root
Brook
Stokes
Smith
Woakes
Atkinson
Stone
Bashir
Rehan
Carse
Cox
Hull
Leach
Potts

Feel slightly for Lawrence but he completely fluffed his audition opening albeit not his natural position.

His innings on Monday was erratic at best.

When does Hartley get called up for when Leach breaks down?

Lawrence doesn't look close to good enough to me, poor temperament and a Tom Westley style reliance on playing into the onside. Sure, he was shunted up to open but if say, Brook got injured, I wouldn't want him at 5 either.

Real chance today and tomorrow for Worcestershire to get the points to stay in Division One. Massive achievement given the difficulty in keeping their best players. The irony of Notts going down (🤞), where we seem to lose most to, would not be lost.

Notts have Kent still to play (than the Bears at home), which could mean that Lancashire go down. Warwickshire aren't out of the woods yet as they still have to play Essex.

Having been 76 for 1, its a pitiful effort by Warwickshire to be bowled out for 128.

Clearly a strong position but decision as to whether to bat again or enforce the follow on is an important one. Think I'd enforce the follow on.
If Worcs can win I think you're right and it's Kent plus one of four to drop. With none getting many points this round of games and given the weather the last two could be wash outs as well.

EDIT: as I type that's the decision

Archie Vaughan opened for Somerset and got 44 and now has a five-for with the ball. Looks like he might be a handy player

Been a dismal season, Davies is a shit captain and the coach appears to have no kind of winning mentality. If we went down I honestly couldn't complain.

Being captain has been good for Davies' batting. I still don't know whether the stupid in game management is him, Robinson or both
