The Car Thread

Got my car back today after being with Audi for an entire week purely for a software update. Fixed all the issues which were driving me mad (why release a car which isn’t fit for purpose) and also means I’ve finally managed to sign up to intelligent octopus and get 12 hours of 7.5p electricity!
Do the indicators work now? :p

How do you get 12 hours and I only get 6?!

Only a 3 pin so guess as my input will still be low.

Before was only getting 4 hours with octopus go so could only put in 10% a day cheap whereas now can be 30%. Still less than what someone would get with a 7kW charger

Ahh I see, that makes sense

Biting the bullet and test driving the Peugeot E2008 next week, was looking at the MG4 but a little small for me.

Range states 250miles, but expecting lower results, still gonna get panicky though when low and away from home for a while. Expect that will subside as I get used to it.

Went down today, turned it down, the advertised mileage was 250 off a full charge, salesman reckons I'd be lucky to get about 130 this time of year and 160 in the summer. Didn't expect that sort of shortfall.

Wife's ID3 actually does about 260 miles on a 80% charge, keeps off the motorway, limits speed to below 100 kph.
Charges it at home (Not on a 3 pin plug) off a Wallbox car charger. costs about €8 per charge. (Night rate)
58kw battery, 145 HP engine.

List price is saying around £40k which isn’t remotely cheap for 2/3s of a battery. Surely Kia or Skoda’s oferrings better for that price.
Relatively I mean. It’s daft, but unless you plan to do long journeys it almost makes sense

On the subject of £40k, worth a mention that’s the line where the Expensive Car Supplement kicks in. EV’s have been exempt but the exemption is to be removed in 2025.

The ECS is currently £390. With a standard ICE vehicle excise duty currently at £180 that’s a whopping £570 annually. The ECS is added for 5 years starting at the second year the vehicle is taxed, so it’s effectively another £2k in tax or a 6 year burden.

EV’s go to £180 standard VED + £390 ECS from 2025. Will be interesting to see what happens to ICE VED rates once the EV advantage is lost.

Can’t argue £40k isn’t a lot of money and there won’t be much sympathy given or expected, but with prices rising and fairly modest vehicles tipping into that band it’s something slipping under the radar which is worth keeping an eye on.

Just test drove the BYD atto, and wow, what a car for the price.

A new Mercedes C probably breaches that now. They were £30k in 2013
Pretty sure the poverty spec is 37-ish, going to over 100k for the bad boys.

Thing is the 40k threshold was set in 2017 when that figure probably did represent an expensive car. Without raising that figure I. 6/7 years it’s become a nice little earner as prices of all motors have gone through the roof.

Another Tory stealth tax tbh.

How was the inside? Been thinking about the Seal.
Fantastic mate, well worth looking at. Only draw back is location of dealers are scarce and limited colour choice, but will grow.

Hadn’t really thought about it until getting totally uninspired by our company car list. Looks to have a great spec.

Wow! My last company car was 2003 and I think the limit was 22k??
