The Car Thread

Cowboy builders I'm guessing, long gone.
Family of the previous owners the cowboy builders but with all the building work legally signed off by the relevant authorities. Every time we do something on the house another thing they did badly appears.

"Cowboy builders" is a new one!

Good to know that housing is at least as shitty to maintain over there as here (we probably come out ahead on the basis of relative newness, but still).

Cowboy is a common phrase over here for someone who does shoddy work, not sure where it comes from.

Dunno why Kenny doesn't just get a long lead and plug it in in his kitchen, lead out through the window.
Because it takes 10-12 hours through a 3 pin plug. Not an issue when at home but it means having a window open for that long in winter.

I doubt he was being serious but I currently charge my hybrid via the outdoor socket. Takes about 4 hours or so, which is fine. Wife doesn't charge hers at home as she does it all at work. Will need a proper charger for my EV car though as it will take fooking forever to charge it up.

Its mental thought the work that has been done so far and I am still not close to getting the charge point. Had a hole dug in my drive, now the street has been dug up. Lovely scar across the road and currently a hole in the path over the road and the neighbour has had he garden dug up to lay the cabling and a huge hole dug outside her house.

The word “cowboy builder” originates from cowboys who were known to be reckless and unreliable.
Here's me thinking cowboys we're all hard working, general good eggs. Too many 50/60s westerns in my childhood.
It's a solution that plenty of people actually do at home or when visiting family.
I'm sure, but its not a permanent solution I'd be happy with.

Nope. You have to be careful about overheating the charging cable, and also the risk of tripping out your house electrics if something goes wrong.

Been charging mine off a 3 pin for 6 months. Know people doing it for much longer than that with zero issues. It’s not running at any higher power than a dishwasher or tumbledryer. Ideally I’d have a charger fitted but I’ve bought a bag of nails house wise which needs tons of work to it and a rewire, so need to get all that done first which is dragging on far too long, probably got another 6 months to wait based on the lead times from builders and electrician.

It's probably a very harsh characterisation, as being an actual "cowboy" was a tremendously horrible job. Many of them died in the process of herding the cattle across country and it wasn't exactly well paid work either.

3 year reprieve between the UK and Europe on the potential for tariffs on electric cars.

Bit of a planning mix up through the day led to me needing to find a charger sharpish on the way home from the match. The Osprey ones at the Merry Boys worked well, tick, but I was a bit surprised to find no bitter or mild of any description on draught in the boozer. All in all an interesting ‘services’ experience.

Spent the day at the new Tesla place just off the M42 in Solihull yesterday.

When that is properly finished, they are currently installing the rapid chargers for the public, you will be able to grab a shower or just chill in their charging lounge.

Was interesting to hear their views on the "boss" which essentially goes he is a smart guy, a huge twat, he doesn't understand how the car industry works outside of California and we wish he had filter he used before talking.

No one wants his Cyber Truck and wish he would get back to working on the Model 2. Price of when finished will be below £30k, probably £25k. Range of well over 400 miles and will change the EV market, certainly over here at that price point.

With how they make the Tesla, only a few optional extras & Limited colour choice it takes just 11 hours to fully build a car in their factory in China.

The new Model 3, that will start arriving from January is a cracking car. Few odd things such as the indicators are now controlled by buttons on the steering wheel. Back row now has it own screen, where temp can be controlled but you can also watch Netflix etc.

He's been talking about the Model 2 for ages. But he gets distracted by too many other things.

Apparently it is essentially ready to hit the production line but he won't give the thumbs up because of Cyber Trucks, Space rockets, being a general twat on his new toy X and seemingly the enjoyment that 1 word from him can send shares in Tesla through the roof or crashing. When he gets over himself he will give the thumbs up in the meantime the thought of the car generates all the marketing they need for it.

It'd be nice if he announced it soon as I have several Ks worth of Tesla shares which I bought when they crashed earlier this year and are already sitting at nearly double what I paid for them.

Got my car back today after being with Audi for an entire week purely for a software update. Fixed all the issues which were driving me mad (why release a car which isn’t fit for purpose) and also means I’ve finally managed to sign up to intelligent octopus and get 12 hours of 7.5p electricity!
